Sleepy Eye man sentenced in juvenile sex case

BROWN COUNTY — A 49-year-old Sleepy Eye man originally charged with three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for inappropriately touching a girl under age 13 three times over a two-year period, received a stay of adjudication in Brown County District Court Dec. 31.

According to a plea agreement, Salvador “Chava” Reyna Arista III, 409 Main St. W. was sentenced to 60 days local confinement, fined $1,000 and placed on 10 years supervised probation. Two second-degree criminal sexual conduct charges were dismissed.

Fines can be worked off by Sentence to Service hours if available. He was ordered to obtain a psychological-sexual evaluation and follow all recommendations, have no contact with victims, persons under age 18 and no no unsupervised contact with minor females unless approved by his probation agent. Arista was ordered to have no use or possession of mood-altering chemicals including alcohol, except prescribed medication.

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police were made aware of a child protection case involving an alleged victim in March 2019. In an interview with Brown County Human Services the next day, the girl identified Arista and said he touched her inappropriately on three occasions between Jan. 1, 2016 and Dec. 31, 2018.
