BCHS annual meeting Thursday

NEW ULM — The Brown County Historical Society will hold its 89th annual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Best Western Convention Center in New Ulm.

Socializing begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. The business meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m. and the program will begin after the business meeting.

Guest speaker Gary Clayton Anderson is a professor of history at the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Okla., known for his specialization in the area of American Indians of the Great Plains and Southwest. He is the author of books on the history of expansion of the West and the fate of the Native American populations that were affected by the settlement of land by European emigrants.

His most recent book, “Massacre in Minnesota,” covers the Dakota War of 1862. The book focuses on key figures caught up in the conflict – Indian, American and Franco and Anglo-Dakota.
