MADELIA — Madelia police arrested a 14-year-old male Madelia High School student Thursday for allegedly making terroristic threats toward other students.

The school’s administration called police at around 4:16 p.m. Thursday. School administration had received a report that a student had threatened to bring a firearm to the school the following day. The threat was reported to have been directed at another student.

Additional threats were reportedly made by the student toward other students later in the day. School administrators school forwarded all threat reports they had received after the end of the school day to law enforcement.

More officers were called in for a full investigation. A search warrant was served at the residence of the student, who was taken into custody and transported to the Watonwan County Jail. A search of a residence did not reveal any evidence of a plan or any means to carry out the threat, according to a Madelia Police news release.

There is no evidence of additional people involved in or participating in the threat. Reports will be forwarded to the Watonwan County Attorney’s Office to review for charges.

Madelia Police Chief Rob Prescher said Madelia High School was in session Friday and all scheduled activities were underway.

“At this time, the police department wants to assure citizens of Madelia there is no danger to school students or staff,” said the news release. Officers were stationed at both Madelia schools Friday.

Madelia Police were assisted in the investigation by the Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office.
