Fit and Strong! is a physical activity self-management program for older adults or persons with lower extremity osteoarthritis (OA). It combines flexibility, strength training and aerobic walking with health education for sustained behavior change. Expect to gain a clear understanding of what osteoarthritis is and how physical activity that is tailored to the needs of persons with arthritis can help them manage arthritis symptoms. Learn to perform safe stretching, balance, aerobic and strengthening exercises. Groups meet weekly for 6 weeks and will have a 45-minute exercise class, followed by 30-minute education session. Please register online or at the Rec Center. The first session starts September 6.

Tot Swim is held the first and third Fridays of the month; September 6 and 20. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys are provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.75/tot.

Youth Volleyball and Flag Football programs are starting in the beginning of September. Please register online or at the Rec Center.

Hermannfest is Saturday, September 7 at Hermann Heights and Harman Parks Be sure to check out the great music, food and spectacular fireworks display over Hermann Monument at approximately 8:30 p.m. This event is FREE. For a full schedule of events, go to www.Hermannmonument.com

Adult Volleyball League Managers’ meeting September 11 at the Rec Center. Women’s VB managers meet at 6:30 p.m., Co-Rec managers meet at 7:15 p.m. If a team manager is unable to attend, please send a rep.

Adult Swim Lessons will be offered Tuesday evenings; September 17 through October 15 from 5:15-6 p.m. Register online or at the Rec Center!

Early Bird Hermann 5k Run/Walk registration is taking place from now through September 20. Please register online or at the Rec Center.

Hermann Tot Trot – Kids Race for children 3-9 on a special short course race, followed by post race activities! Register online or at the Rec Center.

Autumn Civic Center Garage Sales Saturday, September 21 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Come check out the many garage sales under 1 roof!

Weight Lifting for Seniors and Women are two different 6-week program designed to help approach strength training in a safe, effective and fun way that can keep you strong for life! Strength training can help ward off age-related muscle loss, keep bones strong, promote mobility and function, prevent falls and combat depression! Please register online or at the Rec Center for these programs.

Hermann Swim Club begins September 24 and runs through November 19. This is a great opportunity for youth to improve their swimming strokes, build muscle, speed, strength and endurance in a safe and fun environment! Register online or at the Rec Center!

Adult Co-Rec Kickball Tournament will be held Saturday, September 28 at Harman Park. Start forming your teams of 10 (minimum of 5 females). Pool Play followed by playoff brackets (depending on number of teams). Fee is $66 and includes game ball. Register at the Rec Center!

Autumn Park and Rec Registration is currently open and available online at www.newulmmn.gov or at the Rec Center.

PreK Open Gym Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11 a.m. Run, chase and burn off energy! Play with balls, scooters, hula hoops, parachutes and more! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply. Outdoor pickleball courts are open.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center located in Riverside Park is open Thursdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays 1 to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Please call Ron at 507-766-5770 to make arrangements for other times.

Hermann Monument open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the weekend. Admission $3 per person, Ages 5 and under free with adult.

German Park Amphitheater is in great need of improvement! Fundraising for this project continues. Any size of donation is accepted and greatly appreciated for the community venue. Checks can be made to the City of New Ulm and mailed to the Park and Rec. Dept., 122 S. Garden Street, New Ulm.
