Springfield teen faces felony theft, damage to property charges

SPRINGFIELD — A 19-year-old Springfield man faces a felony theft and gross misdemeanor third-degree damage to property charge for his alleged role in a June 9 break-in at the Riverside Park concession building.

Charges against Pedro Infante III, 203 Rock St. W., Springfield, were filed in Brown County District Court Wednesday. He was summoned to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 10.

According to court documents, Springfield police were advised June 10 of a burglary that took place the previous night at the Riverside Park concession building.

A witness told police someone pried open a roll-up window, got inside the building and stole a large amount of soft drinks, candy and baseball equipment. Police noticed a roll-up window was bent, a rubber strip was missing and it appeared to have been cut off.

Police noticed a building door tampered with, a door latch was very loose and it appeared someone tried to kick in the door.

An itemized list of stolen property totaled $1,114. Damage to the roll-up window and concession building totaled $810.39.

On June 12, police received a call from another witness who said they were at Sticker Field South with some kids who were playing ball with some of the stolen items. At Sticker Field, two individuals admitted to being involved in the burglary/theft and that Infante was with them that night.

Infante later told police that at the ball park, he grabbed a stool and stuck it under a roll-up door to pry it open. Infante said he did not enter the building. The two others who admitted to the theft, told police Infante was the “look out.”

Infante told police the other two individuals took two boxes of new baseballs and a bucket of old baseballs from the building.
