Ibberson, with rabbit Ellie, is grand champ

NEW ULM — It takes more than a lucky rabbit’s foot to receive ribbons in the Brown County 4-H Rabbit Show.

Approximately 45 rabbits were entered in this year’s 4-H Show, similar to last year. The show began with the Cloverbud division for the younger exhibitors. There were ten exhibitors in the youngest division, ensuring strong competition in years to come.

Judge Ross Becker said he made the youth work for their ribbon. He asked each exhibitor questions about their rabbit and gave tips for improvement next year.

In the showperson class, Isabelle Krenz took the Junior Champion, with Chloe Johnson taking Reserve Champion.

In Intermediate Showperson, Winsten Nienhaus was Reserve Champion and Gracie Sellner was Champion. Sellner has five years experience showing rabbits and won Intermediate Showperson last year as well. She said the is to have confidence in her rabbit.

Gracie Sellner holds her rabbit Hunter after wining the Intermediate Showperson award. Sellner won the award last year. She said the secret is to be confident with your rabbit.

The Senior Showperson champion went to Meagan Jensen with Reserve going to Allison Jensen. The Jensen family continues to perform at the 4-H Rabbit show. Meagan Jensen said the preparation was key to success. “Just learn your stuff,” she said.

The overall grand champion rabbit banner went to Tyler Ibberson, 12, for his mini lop doe named Ellie. Ellie impressed the judge with its calm demeanor. The rabbit sat still through the entire judging process. Ibberson rarely need to readjust the rabbit.

Ibberson also won overall champion in 2018. Ibberson said rabbits need a lot of care and love. He said he enjoys playing with the rabbits. He also credits his grandmother Teresa Ibberson for getting him interested in rabbit shows.
