Brown County Free Fair opens Wednesday

Staff photo by Fritz Busch A number of rides have arrived by Sunday afternoon at the 152nd Brown County Free Fair that opens Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Brown County Fairgrounds. The fair continues through Sunday, Aug. 11. Demolition derbies are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

NEW ULM — The 152nd Brown County Free Fair opens Wednesday, Aug. 7 with shows, demonstrations, a demolition derby and a diverse band.

The 4-H Pet Show begins at 4 p.m. in the swine barn. Livestock demonstrations follow at 5 p.m. in the swine barn.

Demolition derby tickets go on sale at 5:30 p.m. The demo derby begins at 7 p.m. in the grandstand. The 4-H Clothing Fashion Review begins at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center.

“Power Wheels, young kids in motorized, mini vehicles will return to both demo derby nights, performing between heats,” said Brown County Fair Board President Dan Kotten.

Schell’s Hobo Band performs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the entertainment hall.

The Shirts & Skins Band will perform from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Entertainment Hall. The band that flexes from five to ten pieces, features a rotating set of two, dynamic female lead singers backed by talented musicians on drums, bass, guitar, electric fiddle and keyboard.

Music from the band that performs at the La Crosse Octoberfest, includes funk, country, blues, pop, rock and metal.

Senior Day includes free coffee and cookies at 10 a.m. and free blood pressure checks at 10:30 a.m. and the Outstanding Senior Program at the Civic Center. The Ken & Ken Show follows at 11 a.m.

The FFA, 4-H and Open Class Sheep Show starts at 8:30 a.m. in the swine barn area.

Arch Allies ticket sales begin at 6 p.m. Thursday. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the grandstand. Admission is $15. The band that performs in Fargo, Green Bay and North Las Vegas, plays tribute to Journey, Styx and REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi, Def Lepard and Boston.

Kids Day begins at 10 a.m. Friday with balloon artistry by Mandana in the New Ulm Civic Center. Puppet Wagon Shows begin at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. A Wild Things Zoo stage show starts at 11:30 a.m. A kids pedal pull for ages 4-11 starts at 1 p.m. at the south end of the fairgrounds.

The truck & tractor pull starts at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand. Admission is $5. The Arena Band will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight in the entertainment hall.

Saturday’s demo derby begins at 6 p.m. The Bootleg Band performs from 8 p.m. to midnight in the entertainment hall.

The Minnesota Gladiolus Society State Show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Bockfest Boys will play from 1 to 4 p.m. in the entertainment hall.
