Bavarian Blast in New Ulm set for July 18-21

NEW ULM — Bavarian Blast, now in its 14th year, takes place July 18-21, 2019.

A German and American Music Festival, it features all sorts of music, including German-style bands, old-time, and rock music.  Nationally-known musicians as well as local favorites take the stages all weekend long. 

Thursday evening features performances by: Heide and The Good Ole Boys, Transit Authority: A Tribute to Chicago, and Rumors and Dreams: The Music of Fleetwood Mac.

Multiple stages at Bavarian Blast feature performances Friday through Sunday by: Squeezebox with Mollie B., Church of Cash (Johnny Cash Tribute), I Am, He Said: A Celebration of Neil Diamond, Big Top Radio, Wild Angels, Free Fallin’: A Tribute to Tom Petty, Concord Singers, Schell’s Hobo Band, Alpensterne, Wendinger Band, Leon Olsen Show, Austrian Express, Brian Brueggen and The Mississippi Valley Dutchmen, The Bockfest Boys, Larry Olsen, The Original German Band, Dain’s Dutchmen, and the New Ulm Municipal Band.

Bavarian Blast provides fun for the whole family. Activities at the Blast include the sauerkraut-eating contest, stein-holding competition, barrel rolling, bounce houses for the children, dog races, a 5K/10K, Sunday morning breakfast and Polka Service, Bavarian Blast Parade, food and souvenir vendors, craft beer and local wines, full bar, on-site camping, and free onsite parking. 

Back by popular demand is the unique opportunity to attend a Polka Service with Mollie B. on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The Farm-City Hub Club will be offering breakfast on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with entertainment by the Original German Band. The Bavarian Blast parade, which is annually attended by thousands, takes place at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival offers German food such as bratwurst, pork schnitzel, German potato salad, spätzle, sauerkraut, and apple strudel. Bavarian Blast is a German-American Music Festival and you’ll be able to find both German and American food options on the grounds.  Food is provided by the Nicollet County Pork Producers, New Ulm 4-H, New Ulm Farm-City Hub Club, and Ted Bergstrom.

Advanced 4-day Event Pass is on sale through July 11th only for $50, then the price increases to $65. Weekend Passes to the festival (Fri-Sun) are $35. Daily admission is as follows: Thursday $35, Friday $25, Saturday $15, and $10 on Sunday. A limited supply of Bavarian Blast buttons are for sale at the New Ulm Visitor Center (1 N Minnesota St.) for $5, and include free Sunday admission. Admission for children 16 and under is free Fri-Sun.
