Local movie theater changing hands

NEW ULM — New Ulm city residents can expect changes to the local movie theater in June.

The theater was sold by AMC to Phoenix Theater Entertainment, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based theater management group.

The local theater’s general manager, Brandon Jackson, said he received notification May 23 that the theater’s last day of operations as an AMC entity was Memorial Day.

Throughout this week, the theater’s concession stand, freezers, a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine and a hotdog roller were being replaced, Jackson said.

“I was told they plan on keeping the manager and staff,” Jackson said.

He said he isn’t sure if the theater’s movie projecting systems or seats will receive changes and that all he’s been told is Phoenix Theaters will take over June 3.

The theater will receive a new sign and minor interior renovations with plans to open in June.

“With it being the summer season, my guess is they would want to open up pretty soon,” Jackson said.

Pheonix Theatres Entertainment could not be reached for comment.
