GFW School Board OKs 2.8 percent tax decrease

GIBBON — The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) School Board approved a Final 2018 Payable 2019 Tax Levy that is 2.8 percent under the previous levy Monday.

The 2019 school district levy was set at $1,680,069, $48,250 less than the 2018 levy of $1,728,319.

In addition, the board approved a proposed grade reconfiguration beginning in the fall of 2019 for grades 7-12 to attend high school in Winthrop and grades 4-6 in the Fairfax. Superintendent Lonnie Seifert said the reconfiguration was created to offer more industrial technology and elective courses.

Seifert said the board is scheduled to determine where 3rd-grade students will attend school next school year at the February 2019 board meeting.

The board accepted a $500 3M Foundation donation to support education.
