Tornados spotted as storms sweep through

NICOLLET — A storm front swept across south central Minnesota on Wednesday night, bringing with it at least four tornadoes.

The first of the tornadoes was spotted near Lake Crystal around 5 p.m., moving in a northern direction. Around the same time, another tornado touched down 3 miles southeast of Nicollet.

The National Weather Service confirmed another tornado was spotted north of New Sweden near Highway 22 and County Road 111.

The storm cell continued to move north along Minnesota Highway 111 toward New Sweden. Additional funnel clouds were spotted near Gaylord.

Despite the severity of the storms no injuries were reported. Some damage was reported south of Nicollet with uprooted trees and damage on farmsites near the Nicollet and Sibley County line. This included building damage, crop damage and downed powerlines and trees. No animals were reported injured.

The storm cell produced 3 inches of rain in the New Ulm area.
