Third-country nationals sent to Cameroon
YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) — Lawyers say a new group of third-country nationals has been deported by the United States to Cameroon. The new deportees arrived Monday, days after it came to light that the Trump administration sent nine people to the Central African nation last month as part of its secretive program to remove immigrants to countries they have no ties with. Cameroon is the latest of at least seven African nations to strike deportation deals with the U.S. Lawyers say eight of the nine migrants deported last month had protection orders in the U.S. preventing them from being sent back to their home countries because of fear of persecution or torture.
