Park & Rec Report

Due to the cold weather forecast, we have removed the water from park water fountains for the season. The restrooms will also be closed within the next few weeks. The German Park Angel fountain has been drained and closed for the season due to the threat of freezing. Lincoln Park restroom is closed for the season due to vandalism.

Fit & Strong is a self-managed, physical activity program for older adults or persons with lower extremity osteoarthritis (OA). It combines flexibility, strength training and aerobic walking with health education for sustained behavior change. Expect to gain a clear understanding of what osteoarthritis is and how physical activity tailored to the needs of persons with arthritis can help manage symptoms. Learn to perform safe stretching, balance, aerobic and strengthening exercises. Groups meet Fridays from 8-9:15 a.m. for 6 weeks, starting October 18. There will be 45 minutes of class and 30 minutes of education to follow. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Special No School Open Swims will be offered MEA weekend, October 17 and 18 from 1-4 p.m.

Open Skate at the Civic Center October 17 from 2-4:15 p.m. and October 18 from 1-3 p.m.

Open Hockey at the Civic Center October 17 from 2-3:15 p.m. and October 18 from 1:15-3 p.m.

Tot Swim is held the first and third Fridays of the month; the next one is October 18. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys are provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.75/tot.

Swim Lessons start October 21 and run Monday and Wednesday evenings through November 13. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Floating Pumpkin Patch – Save the Date! October 25 from 5-8:30 p.m. Search the Rec Center Indoor Pool pumpkin patch for your perfect pumpkin, then deck it out at our decorating station with all sorts of un items! Plus, the pool will be open for pumpkin-splashing fun! This is a family event, suitable for participants of all ages! Children 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water. at the Rec Center’s indoor pool. Fee is $5 for Rec Center members or $7.00 for non-members.

Weight Lifting for Women and Seniors are two different 6-week programs designed to familiarize yourselves with strength training, equipment and machines that approaches strength training in a safe, effective and fun way to keep you strong for life! Sessions begin the week of November 4. Refer to the brochure or online for dates/times. Pre registration required online or at the Rec Center.

Fitness Fun Day Friday, November 8 from 6-9 p.m. FREE use of the Rec Center to swim, play basketball, gym games or walk the track! Program co-sponsored by Allina Health/New Ulm Medical Center and the Physicians Group of New Ulm.

Teen Day of Play Friday, November 22 at the Rec Center from 9-11 p.m. This event is FREE and open to teens 12-18, thanks to the generous donations of our Days of Play sponsors!!!

PreK Open Gym Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11 a.m. Run, chase and burn off energy! Play with balls, scooters, hula hoops, parachutes and more! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply.

Open Co-Rec Broomball at the Civic Center begins November 6 and runs each Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. There is no broomball November 27.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center located in Riverside Park is open Thursdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays 1 to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Please call Ron at 507-766-5770 to make arrangements for other times.

Hermann Monument open Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission $3 per person, Ages 5 and under free with adult.

Minnecon Park is closed, due to flooding of the Minnesota River.

German Park Amphitheater is in great need of improvement! Fundraising for this project continues. Any size of donation is accepted and greatly appreciated for this community venue. Checks can be made to the City of New Ulm Amphitheater and mailed to the Park and Rec. Dept., 122 S. Garden Street, New Ulm.
