July is National Park and Rec month! This year’s theme is Game On! We are challenging individuals to submit a digital photo playing at one of our parks or facilities throughout the month of July. There will be three weekly contests with the winner chosen for each category. Each weekly winner will receive Chamber Dollars. July 16-22 Theme is Best Action Shot! Photos must be emailed to lizm@newulmmn.gov by the last date of each weekly contest. Only one photo can be submitted per person each week and must be 5 megabytes or smaller in .jpg format and be at least 1,600 pixels. FREE Yoga in the Park for all ages! Enjoy beautiful summer Saturday mornings in our Parks with relaxed-pace yoga classes for all ages and fitness levels! Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats, but a limited number will be available for those who need one. Please join us Saturday, July 20 from 9-9:45 a.m. at Harman Park, 101 S. Garden Street! Sponsored by Allina Health.

Youth Pickleball Camps will be offered throughout the summer for ages 8-13 at the Lincoln Park Courts, 718 S. State St. The camp will focus on teaching basic rules, etiquette, teamwork, movement and great socialization that comes with playing this unique and addicting sport. Players will be split into groups according to skill and age. The next camp offered Tuesday, July 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lincoln Park. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Join us for one of our Summer Field Trips! Our next trip will be Friday, July 19 to the Hutchinson Family Aquatic Center. 12:30 to 5 p.m. open to youth 8 to 12. The water park includes two water slides, rock climbing wall, water dome, water arch, diving boards and more! Inclement weather date is July 26. Register online or at the Rec Center. There are a few spots left!

Tot Swim is held the first and third Fridays of the month; the next one is Friday, July 19. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.75/tot.

Weight Lifting for Seniors is a 6-week program designed to help approach strength training in a safe, effective and fun way that can help ward off age-related muscle loss, keep bones strong, promote mobility and function, prevent falls and combat depression! The next session offered Mondays at 10 am. Starting July 22. Register at the Rec Center!

Get to Know Nature Camps that include Canoeing – MN River Paddle Tuesday, July 23 and Wild about Wildlife Tuesday, August 13 will be offered for just $5! Take a look at the options in our summer Activity Brochure and be sure to register soon!

The Brementown Musicians Children’s Theater performance will be held Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. at the New Ulm Community Center. Talking animals, inept pirates and other comic characters abound in this action-packed story based on the classic Grimm fairy tale. Admission is FREE!

National Night Out will be held in German Park Monday, July 29, starting at 5:30 p.m. and run until dusk. This is a night of family fun, including music entertainment from the Schell’s Hobo Band, games, activities, food and more!

Outdoor Wading Pools are daily from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Children must be with an adult of at least 18. There is NO lifeguard on duty. Air temp must be a minimum of 72 degrees to open and will close for strong winds, heavy downpours or lightening.

Rec on Go travels to neighborhoods or parks where staff set up activities and equipment for youth and teens. Healthy Snacks provided to youth 18 and under. Please refer to the Park and Rec Summer Brochure or our website for the weekly schedule. This is a FREE program, brought to you by Allina Health and Community Education.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center located in Riverside Park is open Thursdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays 1 to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Please call Ron at 507-766-5770 to make arrangements for other times.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply. Outdoor pickleball courts are open.

Minnecon Park is closed until further notice due to high Minnesota River levels.

Hermann Monument open daily 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission $3 per person. Ages 5 and under free with adult.

German Park Amphitheater is in great need of improvement! Fundraising for this project continues. Any size of donation is accepted and greatly appreciated for the community venue.
