July is National Park and Rec month! This year’s theme is Game On! We are challenging individuals to submit a digital photo playing at one of our parks or facilities throughout the month of July. There will be three weekly contests with the winner chosen for each category. Each weekly winner will receive Chamber Dollars. July 9-15 Theme is Best Selfie! Photos must be emailed to lizm@newulmmn.gov by the last date of each weekly contest. Only one photo can be submitted per person each week and must be 5 megabytes or smaller in .jpg format and be at least 1,600 pixels. Youth Pickleball Camps will be offered throughout the summer for ages 8-13 at the Lincoln Park Courts, 718 S. State St. The camp will focus on teaching basic rules, etiquette, teamwork, movement and great socialization that comes with playing this unique and addicting sport. Players will be split into groups according to skill and age. The next camp offered Tuesday, July 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lincoln Park. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Join us for one of our Summer Field Trips! Our next trip will be Friday, July 19 to the Hutchinson Family Aquatic Center. 12:30 to 5 p.m. open to youth 8 to 12. The water park includes two water slides, rock climbing wall, water dome, water arch, diving boards and more! Inclement weather date is July 26. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Weight Lifting for Seniors is a 6-week program designed to help approach strength training in a safe, effective and fun way that can help ward off age-related muscle loss, keep bones strong, promote mobility and function, prevent falls and combat depression! The next session offered Mondays at 10 am. Starting July 22. Register at the Rec Center!

Outdoor Wading Pools are daily from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Children must be with an adult of at least 18. There is NO lifeguard on duty. Air temp must be a minimum of 72 degrees to open and will close for strong winds, heavy downpours or lightening.

Rec on Go travels to neighborhoods or parks where staff set up activities and equipment for youth and teens. Healthy Snacks provided to youth 18 and under. Please refer to the Park and Rec Summer Brochure or our website for the weekly schedule. This is a FREE program, brought to you by Allina Health and Community Education.

Puppet Wagon: Catch a puppet show this week, traveling to a park near you! For a full schedule of stops/times, refer to our summer brochure or go to our website at newulmmn.gov.

Tot Swim is held the first and third Fridays of the month. This is an opportunity to Swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.75/tot.

Rec Center Special Independence Holiday Weekend Hours: Wednesday, July 3, closing at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 4 – CLOSED ALL DAY, Friday, July 5 – Open 5 a.m.-5 p.m. with a special Open swim from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, July 6 – Open 7 a.m.-1 p.m., Sunday, July 7 – open 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center located in Riverside Park is open Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 3 p.m. or by appointment. Please call Ron at 507-766-5770 to make arrangements for other times.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply. Outdoor pickleball courts are open.

Hermann Monument open daily 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission $3 per person. Ages 5 and under free with adult.

German Park Amphitheater is in great need of improvement! Fundraising for this project continues. Any size of donation is accepted and greatly appreciated for the community venue.
