Park & Rec Report

Fall Program Registration is open! Register online at newulmmn.gov or at the Rec Center. Due to current mandates, staff are required to wear masks during programs. Players and spectators are not required but welcome to wear masks. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes prior to starting time. Families should sit at least 6 feet apart from others. Bleacher seating is available. Lawn chairs must be placed on the track. Only parents participating in Football Buddies are allowed in playing area. Equipment cleaned and sanitized between groups.

Flag Football Skills is open for Grades 1 through 5 and will be played at Johnson Football Field Sundays and Thursdays starting September 20.

Football Buddies is a new program for youth age 4-6 to partner with an adult for drills and fundamentals of flag football, including stances, handoffs, basic movements, flag pulling and more in a fun atmosphere. No games. Must be 4 years old at the start of program.

Youth Volleyball is open for ages 8 through 13 Tuesdays September 22 through October 20. Program offered outside at the Harman Park sand volleyball courts and will focus on fundamentals of volleyball. Set, pass, hit and serve in this fun program designed to teach and build upon the basic skills of volleyball.

Splash Pad at North Park is closed for the season.

The Recreation Center is open; walking track, fitness equipment and fitness classes for those age 15 years and up. People may also play basketball, racquetball, pickleball and use open gym, but must be at least 12 years of age or with a parent.

Maintain 6-foot physical distance as much as possible. Only individuals with memberships are allowed to enter facility. Memberships can be purchased at the welcome desk.

Please note our new Hours: Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone entering should perform a self-health screen posted on entrances and not enter if answering yes to any of the questions. Masks are required, but may be removed when exercising or playing. Users must maintain 6-foot physical distance. Please note some areas are not staffed or disinfected. Use at your own risk. Follow us on our Facebook Page for the latest information.

The Community Center is closed to the general public, but available for private rentals with conditions. Meals on Wheels and takeout meals are operating. Call 359-2243 for delivery or to reserve a meal for pick up/take out.

Construction on the Rec Center continues on the new Expansion project (aquatic center, indoor playground and wellness center. Follow us on Facebook with updates. The temporary main entrance is now located on the New Ulm Northeast side of the Fieldhouse. Please follow the signs.

German Park Amphitheater construction is complete! Thank you to all donors! Fundraising continues for the shade structure and performance stage! The next $100,000 in donations will be matched by a private donor, in honor of Janet and Terry Dempsey. Any size donation is greatly appreciated. Hermann Heights Park construction continues on retaining wall, entrance road and parking lots.  The entire park, including Hermann Monument, playground and shelters are closed until 2021. Please stay out of the park, as it is a construction zone.

Memorial/Gift Giving Ideas – Purchase one or more paver stone(s) with your inscription(s), in the walkways near Hermann Monument and/or German Park for $200 each, contact the Park & Rec office at 359-8344. Park or trail benches range in price from $1,500 to $3,500 each, call 359-8344.
