Off the Shelf: Banish snow worries with Library apps

As we start to dig out from the latest snowfall and await the inevitable next one because it’s bound to sneak our way, don’t fret if it halts your trip to the library.  If you don’t have enough reading material, don’t be alarmed! With the click of a keyboard and a mouse, you may be able to connect to a wealth of information through the library.

If you haven’t met Libby yet, I’m about to change your life for the better! Libby is a free app from OverDrive, available for Apple, Android and Windows devices. Libby makes it easy to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks from your phone or tablet. The best part? It’s easy to get started! Download the Libby app for Apple, Android or Windows devices. Open the app. Find your library. Enter your library card number and password. Voilà!

Once you’ve finished these steps, you can browse popular and available titles to your heart’s content. Another wonderful feature is that Libby allows you to access multiple libraries if you belong to more than one library. You have the ability to link all your library cards.  Start your path to becoming an avid eBook reader (or listener) today!

Another great resource when your newspaper isn’t on your doorstep and the carrier is delayed is to browse the eLibrary Minnesota at Minitex under the MnKnows link on the library’s webpage: www.newulmlibrary.org.  In the ProQuest Global Newstream, you have many daily newspapers and their archives at your fingertips including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Barron’s, and many others!

If you can’t get to the library to return your books, don’t fret! No fines mean no worries. Make your way to our new collections of books when you’re safely plowed out.  As always we look forward to seeing you in the library!
