First book in that Newer Series You Want to Read

What is better than finding a great new book? Discovering a great new series! The list below names the first book in a series, as well as the title of the newest addition to the series. The new additions have recently hit library shelves or will be at the library soon. Place the newest book on hold and read the rest of the series while you wait for the new release.

“The Woman in Cabin 10” by Ruth Ware. When travel journalist Lo Blacklock is invited on a boutique luxury cruise around the Norwegian fjords, it seems like a dream career opportunity. But the trip takes a nightmarish turn when she wakes in the middle of the night to hear a body being thrown overboard, only to discover that no one has been reported missing from the boat. The second book in the series, “The Woman in Suite 11,” comes out July 8, 2025.

“The Wren in the Holly Library” by Linda K A. Kierse is trapped in the library of an old brownstone with a monster filled with terrible power and darkness. Instead of killing her, the monster offers Kierse a job, giving her a glimpse into who she really is, which could be something far worse than a monster. The second book, “Robin on the Oak Throne,” was released June 17, 2025.

“Sworn to Silence” by Linda Castillo. In this thriller, set in Amish country, only one woman can stop a brutal serial killer–but she is terrified of a secret linking her to the murders. “Rage,” book 17 of the Kate Burkholder series, comes out July 8, 2025.

“Finlay Donovan is Killing It” by Elle Cosimano. A stressed-out single-mom and struggling novelist finds her life in chaos when she is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel and is mistaken as a contract killer. The fifth book in the series, “Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave,” came out March 4, 2025.

“Magpie Murders” by Anthony Horowitz. From New York Times bestselling author Anthony Horowitz comes Magpie Murders, a … reimagining of the classic whodunit (a la Agatha Christie) with a contemporary mystery wrapped around it. This author wrote the popular UK Midsomer Mysteries TV series! “Marble Hall Murders,” the third book in the series, came out May 13, 2025.

“A Fate Inked in Blood” by Danielle Jensen. A shield maiden blessed by the gods battles to unite a nation under a power-hungry king while fighting her growing desire for his fiery son, in the first book of a Norse-inspired fantasy romance series. The second book, “A Curse Carved in Bone,” came out May 13, 2025.

“When You are Mine” by Michael Robotham. Philomena McCarthy is a young, ambitious police officer with the elite Metropolitan Police in London. When she responds to a domestic violence call, she finds the victim, Tempe Brown, trying to protect her abuser, a married man named Darren Goodall, a decorated Scotland Yard detective afraid of no one. “The White Crow” is the second book of the series and comes out July 1, 2025.

“The Foxglove King” by Hannah Whitten. When Lore was thirteen years old, she escaped a cult in the catacombs beneath the city of Dellaire. When Lore’s magical powers are revealed, she is captured. She tangles with politics, religion and forbidden romance as she attempts to navigate a debauched and opulent society. “The Nightshade God,” the third book in the series, comes out July 15, 2025.

“Assistant to the Villain” by Hannah Maehrer. With ailing family members to support, Evie Sage’s employment status isn’t just important-its vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn’s most villain results in a job offer, naturally she says yes. “Accomplice to the Villain,” the third book in the series, comes out August 5, 2025.
