In Appreciation

German-Bohemian Heritage Society Thanks Parade

Participants

Dankeschön from the German-Bohemian Heritage Society (GBHS) to all the people and organizations who combined to produce New Ulm’s 21st Germanic- American Day Parade on Oktober 6 during Oktoberfest. Dozens of families and units with hundreds of participants marched before a large and enthusiastic crowd on a perfect Oktober day.

Because this is truly a People’s Parade, DANKE to all the families and individuals dressed in their tracht (homeland costumes) who marched carrying German and American flags, banners, and concertinas, with signs announcing the family name and year in which they arrived in New Ulm, some dating back to our founding in 1854 & 1856.

DANKE to the dignitaries who led the Parade: Adeline Wiltscheck who served as Grand Marshal and Bürgermeister Robert Beussman and Frau Cheryl.

DANKE to all the organizations which sent Parade units: The Color Guard from New Ulm’s veterans organizations arranged by Gary Wiltscheck, Schell’s Big Blue Beer Bus, Wanda Gag House float, the Narren, City of New Ulm float, Junior Pioneers, Hermann (Bryce Boelter) and his wife Thusnelda (Wendy Enter), Goosetown delegation, GBHS wagon with musicmakers in their tracht, Gnomes and Heinzelmanchen, New Ulm Deutscher SprachKlub, and of course the Fire Truck carrying New Ulm’s royalty: Miss New Ulm Karlie Gieseke and Princesses Madison Portner and Abigail Allen, followed by KNUJ employees handing out shots of steaming sauerkraut. All were protected by New Ulm’s finest Police.

DANKE to the Parade Starter Terry Johnson, Finisher John Rolloff, Photographer Don Borstad, and all the others who made this Grand Parade possible.

DANKE to The Journal, KNUJ Radio, New Ulm Community Access Television, Nuvera, Comcast, and the Chamber of Commerce which combined to produce extensive regional publicity before, during, and after the Parade. Of course New Ulm’s #2 ranking as Best Oktoberfest in the Nation by USA today added greatly to our success!

More New Ulm gemütlichkeit to come in 2019.

Mit freundlichen Grüssen / With friendly Greetings,

Pat Kretsch, President, GBHS

Rick Eckstein, Parade Chairman, GBHS

George L. Glotzbach, Obrigkeit, GBHS
