New Arrangement Greatly

Simplifies Finding of Trouble and Also Increases Benefits.

An important and very beneficial change in the rural telephone line system of the New Ulm Rural Telephone Co. in West Newton township was completed recently, when two new-circuits were installed between New Ulm and the bottom of the Wager hill.At that point, Line No. 20-F- was divided and Line 30-F- was cut into that circuit. The other circuit continues to St. George, where Line 33-F-splits and Line 46-F- is formed.

Subscribers Grouped

Another material improvement in the service to the company’s patrons in that community is the grouping of the subscribers on rural lines, according to their location. Heretofore new subscribers have been added to lines at random, usually being placed on those circuits that were least encumbered. As a result, the subscribers served by a certain line were spread over considerable territory, causing great difficulty and waste of time in locating trouble. Another bad feature of the old arrangement was the fact that, in some instances, near neighbors were obliged to call central to reach each other by tele-phone, due to their being on different rural lines.

11 and half Circuit Miles

A total of 11 and half circuit miles of wire was used in making the line extensions, which, in addition to the two new circuits, include nine new subscribers added to Lines 19-F- and 20-F-. The residents of West Newton township and St. George are now served on six rural telephone lines, instead of four, as heretofore.

Many Transfers

Before the new arrangement was made, there were a total of 27 subscribers on Line 20-F. Of these, 13 have been transferred to the newline, No. 30-F-, leaving 14 on the original circuit. In addition thereto, three subscribers have been cut over onto Line 30-F- from Lines 19-F- and 20-F-.There were a total of 26 subscribers on Line 33-F-, before the change was inaugurated. , Of these,13 have been transferred to the new line, No.46-F-, leaving 13 on the original circuit. Seven subscribers were cut off from Line 21-F- nd added to Lines30-F-, 46-F-,and 33-F-.
