The total receipts of the Brown County fair, held the latter part of August were $15,047.93. This is in comparison with $15,261.08 last year. The heaviest receipts of any previous fair were $10,090.15 in 1921. The holding of the fair over Sunday, this year, coupled with the excellent weather conditions, experienced, swelled the crowds, as well as the receipts. This year the fair was a four-day event, while last year it continued for five days. If a five-day fair had been held this year the receipts would have topped those of last year considerably.

Entry day was on Thursday this year and the fair continued through Friday and Saturday and closed Sun-day evening. Last year entry day was on Saturday and the fair continued through Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and closed Wednesday evening.

Biggest in History of County

The fair this year was the biggest in point of attendance and gate receipts of any ever held in the history of the Brown County Agricultural society. Those, who had charge of the booking of the attractions are to be commended for their excellent judgment in securing acts, which drew the crowds. New Ulmites, who visited other fairs in this part of the state, say that the attractions this year eclipsed those of any other fair in this region. That the Brown County fair is one of the best in the state is becoming a recognized fact, among those, whose judgment can be taken as one hundred per cent in fair matters. Other fairs in southern Minnesota are just breaking even or running behind, while the Brown County fair is a success from a financial standpoint. This is because the patrons are given good, clean attractions and there is sufficient of them to take up every minute of the time.

Will Net Goodly Sum

As near as can be deduced at this time the net receipts of the fair this year will be between $3,500 and $4,000. This will assist greatly in cutting down the indebtedness of the society and furnish funds with which to carry on the fair next year.

During the past six years the Agricultural society has made wonderful strides in the development and improvement of the property. New hog barns, cattle barns, poultry barns, a grandstand and an addition have been erected together with a new permanent fence.

Improvements This Year

This year the society has made improvements costing approximately $11,000. A new poultry barn was erected at a cost of $2,545. The new fence caused an expenditure of $2,400, while the addition to the grand-stand cost $4,500. The old poultry house was turned into a boys’ and girls’ club headquarters and together with other improvements caused an additional outlay of approximately $1,500. These figures total approximately $11,000.

Some Indebtedness

Secretary Wm. A. Lindemann states that notwithstanding these expensive improvements the indebtedness remaining this year will be between $3,500 and $4,000. Thus it will be seen that the financial status of the society is excellent.

Gate Receipts $8,142.20

The gate receipts this year totaled $8,142.20. Last year they were $7,296.71.

The grandstand receipts were $2,355.65 during the recent fair, while last year they were $1,175.

The refreshment stands fell down this year in comparison with last year. The receipts from this activity this year totaled $2,689.64, while last year the sum was $4,685.87. The lunch counter added $939.15 to the receipts and the entry fees were $183. Concessions, shows, etc., swelled the receipts by $738.29. The slump this year was in the receipts of the refreshment stands.

The total receipts at the fair during the past five years are as follows:1925, $15,047.93;1924, $15,261.08;1923, $10,066.35; 1922, $8,095.27 and 1921, $10,090.15.
