BANKERS OF SIBLEY COUNTY PUT PRICE ON HEADS OF OUTLAWS

Organizing a protective system to safeguard member banks against raids by outlaws, the Sibley County Bankers association has put a price on the head of every robber captured and convicted in the holdup of any member bank. Sibley county has twelve banks, and all are members of the association and all join in offering the reward, Arthur L. Olson of Winthrop, chairman of the protective committee, has announced.

There have been five bank holdups in the county in the last two years, Mr. Olson said, and the association has organized a protective system which promises future outlaw visitors a “hot time,” he said.

The association is offering a reward of $1,000 for the capture and conviction of each person found guilty of robbing any bank in the association, with a limit of $3,000 in any one burglary and a time limitation of six months from the time of the holdup.

Officers of the association are,Thomas J. Kretsch, Gibbon, Minn., president, and Robert McMullen, Gibbon, secretary and treasurer.

CROP ACREAGE FROM 30

TO 35 PER CENT TOTAL

——–

About Same as Last Year,

According to County Agent

Willis Lawson. -75 Per Cent

in Last Week.

——–

Corn planting in Brown county is completed, all but a few late pieces. This will not amount to five per cent of the total acreage put in corn this year. Most of the planting was accomplished last week. According to Willis Lawson, county agent, seventy-five per cent of the crop was in Saturday. The greater part of the work being done last week. However some farmers started planting during the latter part of April, but owing to the cool weather, none of the early planting was above ground, at the time of the heavy frost Saturday night. Had it been, the frost would have nipped it.

Farmers in Fields.

Farmers were in the fields in every part of the county during the past week completing the putting in of the corn crop and the work is practically finished.

The acreage in corn is from 30 to 35 per cent of the total crop acreage in the county. This is about the same as last year.

Small Grain Coming.

The small grain’ had been retarded some by the cool weather, but is looking good.

The wheat acreage has been increased some this year. Last season it was 8.2 per cent of the total crop acreage. This year it will run between 12 and 15 per cent. The higher price for this cereal is taken to be the reason for the increase. Winter wheat formed about 8 per cent of the crop acreage last year and it is about the same this year.

The acreage in oats is approximately the same as it was last year, being about 20 per cent of the total. There is some increase in barley. Last year this small grain comprised about 2per cent of the crop acreage, while this year 3 per cent is the estimate.
