New Ulm selected as Bicentennial city

New Ulm has been named a Bicentennial Community.

The announcement of New Ulm’s Bicentennial status came Monday from the Minnesota Bicentennial Commission, headed by Rudy Perpich.

PERPICH SAID his commission expects quick approval of the Bicentennial designation by the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission in Washington, D.C.

“When word is received from Washington,” Perpich said, “we shall contact you to arrange presentation of the Bicentennial flag, the symbol of a Bicentennial Community. We hope this symbol will be a reminder to the community to begin now to make 1976 one more lasting landmark in America’s great heritage.

“A meaningful future of the Bicentennial observance will only be realized in the hands of the citizens of the local communities.”
