The first baseball game of the present season will be held in New Ulm, Sunday, May 10. Mankato will travel to this city upon that occasion and engage the local team in the first game of the schedule. This was decided at a meeting of the directors of the Southern Minnesota Baseball association, which met at Mankato Sunday and arranged the schedule for the present season.

Rochester New Member

Filling out the circuit, Rochester was granted the eighth franchise in the association at the board of directors meeting, held in Mankato Sunday afternoon. Following action on the bid for the final berth, made by G. A. Zamzow, who represented the Mayo City club at the confab, a schedule calling for a split season, with eight Sundays of play in each half, was drawn up and approved; a number of men ranked as outsiders were raised to the status of home men.

Placing all teams on an equal basis so far as, games and opponents are concerned, the schedule was completed by means of a system whereby representatives of the eight teams drew numbers. The layout for the eighth and final game of each half was determined among the four western clubs and the four eastern by a similar method.

July 5 has been set aside as an open date, due to the number of holiday cards that will be run off the day before and in some instances extend through Sunday.

Schedule Reversed

With the schedule just the reverse of what it is for the initial half of the season with the exception of the final Sunday, play on the second will be launched July 12 and come to a close August 30.

A post season series between the winner of the first half and the championship aggregation of the second will take place during the early part of September. Brought on by Owatonna’s request for additional help due to the illness of its first sacker who will be out of the lineup for some time a long winded discussion took place regarding the classification of men as outsiders and home men.

Sunday’s meeting was the final one, barring unforeseen developments, before the opening of league play.

Workout Sunday

The first workout of the local material of the season was held at the baseball grounds Sunday. A number of prospective in and out fielders weer out for practice.
