MURPHY MAY GET LONG “PEN” TERM
Oklahoma Authorities Believe They Have Sufficient Evidence to In prison Pickpocket Suspect for Several Years. The Fact That Fugitive Jumped Bail Bond in New Ulm and Kansas City Being Held Against Him.
——–
County Attorney T. O. Streissguth of this city received a communication from County Attorney J. K. Wright of Oklahoma county, Okla., Tuesday, confirming the context of a telegram which arrived here last week, stating, that Charles Murphy, pickpocket suspect, who forfeited a bail bond in the sum of $2,000 here, had been arrested for a like crime on a charge of grand larceny, at Oklahoma City, Okla., recently. Murphy gave his name as Charles J. Daily at Oklahoma City, but his identity was revealed by the circulars sent out by Sheriff W.J. Julius some time ago.
Several Years’ Term.
County Attorney Wright states, that, on the strength of Murphy’s past record, he is confident that the “dip” suspect will be sentenced to the Oklahoma state penitentiary for a term of several years. He also advises County Attorney Streissguth that the warden of the penitentiary will be duly informed that Murphy is wanted by the Brown county authorities, and upon the expiration of his sentence, the local officials will be notified in ample time to reach the prison and get the man before he is released.
Long Criminal Record.
That Murphy is a confirmed criminal, making a specialty of picking pockets, was revealed by his long and checkered record, which was published in the Journal last week. Owing to the fact that he forfeited $2,000 bail here and $3,000 bail at Kansas City, Mo., where he had been arrested on a fugitive warrant issued by Judge I. M. Olsen of the Brown county district court, the Oklahoma county authorities insisted on fixing his cognizance there in an amount which would preclude his obtaining surety.
