SHERIFF HAS BIG YEAR DURING 1924
Annual Report of W. Jo Julius Shows 42 Prisoners Taken by County During Past Year.
——–
BOARD FURNISHED 927 DAYS AT COST OF $696
——–
Jail Not Empty During Entire Year. Interesting Statistics
Furnished by Sheriff.
——–
The year 1924 proved to be a rather busy one for Sheriff W. J. Julius and his deputy, W. H. Gieseke. The total number of prisoners was 42. This is large, when compared with 23, incarcerated in the county bastile the previous year. There were 57 in 1922. Nine of the forty-two were charged with violations of the federal prohibition laws.
Board Bill $928.
The sheriff receives seventy-five cents per day for feeding the prisoners incarcerated in the county jail. There will be no one, who will say he is getting rich on this activity, in fact, sheriffs of Minnesota would rather have their jails empty than filled up with boarders. The laundry work is thrown in by the sheriff; that is the seventy-five cents must cover board and laundry.
Jail Filled All the Time.
During the past year the county jail has been filled all the time. This is rather unusual, for it is seldom that the county bastile is not empty at least a part of the time each year. The forty-two prisoners were charged as follows:
