Storm baby
on the way
Mrs, Dean Ellingson of Hanska, an expectant mother, was brought to Loretto Hospital in New Ulm today by Brown County Sheriff’s deputies.
The deputies, Larry Pederson and Marv Rieck, picked Mrs. Ellingson up at Skyview Mobile Homes, where she was staying with friends. Mrs. Ellingson had gone to a mobile home Friday night to stay with friends so she would be closer to the hospital.
A snowplow from the Brown County Highway Department led the way for the deputies , who transported Mrs. Ellingson in the department’s four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Hospital officials said Mrs. Ellingson was okay Saturday afternoon but had not yet given birth.
Woman saved
after search
Marlys Stolt, 40, of Nicollet was the subject of a snowmobile search Friday night when her snowmobile apparently developed engine trouble and she became lost.
Nicollet County authorities said at noon Saturday they had been notified that Mrs. Stolt is alive and well–except for frostbite.
She reportedly found an abandoned pickup ans spent the night in its cab. This morning she found her way to a nearby farm.
Authorities said the only communication with the farm is by way of snowmobile.
She was reported to have been with a group of several other snowmobilers when she became separated from the group.

Ranking high
ABOUT A DOZEN business places in New Ulm were open Saturday. Most were service type businesses, like drug stores,dairy store, supermarket.
Joey’s Bar at noon Saturday looked like a normal Friday night: almost full of customers. Some came for noon lunch and others were young adults “killing the day” at playing cards or whatever.
Bowling leagues were idled Friday and Saturday.
With the REA power line out for some hours, Journal photographer Ron Grieser used his snowmobile to pick up some fireplace logs near his rural New Ulm home. He also made a trip to town for camper stove fuel. It was very tough going, even on a snowmobile, he said.
Skeleton staff
puts out paper
THE JOURNAL editorial staff made it to work Saturday on foot and snowmobiles. Several girls in the production department were picked up by snowmobiles and brought to work at the Journal.
Publisher Roger Matz said it was tough going from his home on Southridge Road near the golf course to the Journal office. He went over one big drift that was like going off the end of cliff, he said. On the way home , he changed his route.
Steve Kohls, recent addition to the editorial staff, did some darkroom work Friday. When he looked out the front window around midnight, he said “no way” and bunked for the night in the Journal office with the floor for a bed.
Only one area game
Only one basketball game featuring Journal area leagues was played Friday night. Bethlehem Academy of Fairbault won 64-53 at Owatonna Marian in DeSmet Conference play.
All wrestling meets were postponed. Saturday’s schedule was wiped out also fore basketball and wrestling.
