The Minnesota amateur independent basketball championship will be decided in New Ulm, according to arrangements made as the result of communication between the Indianapolis, Ind., headquarters of the Central States Amateur Independent Basketball association and Company A of this city. The final games to determine the championship will be played at the New Ulm Armory, the tentative dates being March 20 and 21.
Overtures Made.
A few months ago, the association headquarters communicated with Company A relative to staging the final state games at the Armory, and negotiations were completed when Peter Herrian of the Company A basketball team was delegated by the headquarters to make the local arrangements.
Many Teams Affiliated.
The Central States Amateur Independent Basketball association comprises practically all of the amateur basketball teams outside of colleges and schools, in several states, including Minnesota. Its purpose is to give basketball players an opportunity to continue this activity after graduating from institutions of learning, and among the teams affiliated are quite a number of basketball aggregations of military units, including Company A of this city. Each state in the association will be divided into districts, and the district winners in Minnesota will participate in the final games to be staged here next March.
Second Largest Floor.
The New Ulm Armory has the second largest basketball floor in the state, lacking but 20 feet in length of being the most extensive. This factor was considered by the association headquarters at Indianapolis, and prompted them to enter negotiations for the Armory for the final games in Minnesota.
