Fourteen fast racers, all members of the Northwest Auto Racing Association, will be here on that day to compete in the big event of the after-noon. These racers include all of the fastest drivers in North and South Dakota and Minnesota and six big runs will constitute the racing pro-gram. Local Man Entered
J. J. McCoy, one of the drivers entered in this race took sixth place in one of the annual racing classics at the Indianapolis speedway. The eyes of the New Ulm people will no doubt be on the car driven by H. H. Battig of this city, as Mr. Battig is known as a fearless driver and local people would like to see him at the lead in the finish of the races. Battig recently participated in a race in Ruskin Park, Sturgis, S. D., and while there got into a smashup with two of the other racers and had his “Minnesota Special’s mashed into splinters. However, he has his Apperson racer left and will drive this car in the races Sunday.Battig also set a record for the track at Sturgis in one of the 5-mile races and will try to duplicate the feat on the local track.
Big Base Ball Game.
Besides the auto races the boys have also secured another big attraction in the nature of a baseball game between Winthrop and Fairfax. Both of these teams have been playing some sturdy ball this year and are after each other hot and heavy. They will come here with blood in their eyes and as they play for a big purse each team will put forth its best efforts to win the game. New Ulm fans have not witnessed any good ball games here this year and this game should be a great treat to them.
Program Starts At One.
The program will start at one o’clock sharp as it will be a long one and will consume the most of the afternoon. Music will be furnished during the entire afternoon. Admission to the big gala doings is only fifty cents and no extra charge will be made for parking cars. It is conducted under the auspices of the Benjamin J. Seifert Post of the American Legion In this city and all money above expenses will be put in the treasury to aid them in the good work which they are doing to help their fellow veterans.
