Galvin named KNUJ manager
Perry Galvin, 40, veteran KNUJ newscaster and advertising salesman, was named manager of the station, it was announced today.
Galvin succeeds George Korenchen, who announced last week that he was leaving the station management to devote full time to the travel properties of the New Ulm Travel Service and Travel Fun Tours.
Galvin comes to the post with a background of news, programming and sales.
He came to the staff of the Daily Journal in 1959 as regional editor after nearly two years as a newsman for the Redwood Falls Gazette. In 1963, Galvin joined the ranks of KNUJ as a salesman, sportscaster and news announcer.
For years, his voice has brought KNUJ’s major newscasts into area homes and he has also handled the play by play broadcasts of high school football, basketball and baseball games.
Under his direction, KNUJ’s player of the week selections have brought recognition to countless area high school athletes. He is often asked to appear as master of ceremonies at civic functions.,
A graduate of Washburn high school in Minneapolis, he was graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1958 with a BA degree in journalism. He is also a veteran of four years of service in the Navy.
