Store owner beaten, robbed
Fay Jukulen, co-owner of the Wig Boutique, was robbed at her shop at 1 1/2 N. Minnesota of $17 or $18 about 2:50 p.m. Saturday, according to New Ulm Police.
Mrs. Jukulen was working alone at the boutique, which is one of several second-floor offices downtown.
She had gone to the bathroom down the hall and when she came back in the boutique a man hiding behind the door knocked her hard on the shoulder and threw her on the floor, striking her several times.
Another man cleaned out the till, taking $17 or $18.
Mrs. Jukulen’s sister and co owner of the boutique, Kay Sveine, said her sister told her one of the men said, “This isn’t even enough for a fix.”
Mrs. Sveine said one Monday night two weeks ago when her sister was working alone two men came in and one stood by her while the other walked around, went in the back room, and asked her if she was the owner, if she worked alone there.
Mrs. Sveine said her sister told her she got a phone call Saturday morning which sounded like one of those two men.
Before the men left one took a scissor and gashed Mrs. Jukulen’s leg, her sister said. She said Mrs. Jukulen didn’t see the face of either robber.
The victim, age 30, was treated at a local hospital and released. Both owners live in rural Watonwan County. They bought the business about 1 1/2 years ago.
Police said no description was available of the robbers.
