HANSKA – The Committee Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) is hosting a vigil 2-3 p.m. Saturday, May 2 in Hanska to honor the lives of Tabitha Leigh Trescott and Justin Paul Reinarts. The two were killed in their home on Nov. 2, 2025 in Hanska. The vigil will be held outside of Trescott and Reinarts home at 102 w. Blessum St. in Hanska on the six-month anniversary of their murder. NEW ULM — It appears Minnesota’s new “Grandparents Happy Hour” law effective Aug. 1, 2026 in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, won’t change things much in area nursing homes. The new law allows assisted living facilities, and boarding care homes to serve alcohol to residents and guests during organized events without a liquor license. New Ulm Police • Received a two-vehicle injury crash reported at 10:58 a.m. Thursday on Highway 19 east of Highway 15, Winthrop, Transit Township, Sibley County. A 2008 Chrysler 300 driven westbound by Diego Armando Ortiz, 20, Gaylord, who collided with 2009 Kenworth tractor driven westbound by Remon Meijer, 29, Richmond. Ortiz was transported to Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center, Arlington with non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers wore seat belts. The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Winthrop Police, Fire and Ambulance assisted.

New Ulm Police • Received a report of garage door damage estimated at $5,668 at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday. The property owner did not want to file charges on the suspect, a 15-year-old New Ulm male. A report was done for documentation. Later at 4:34 p.m. Tuesday at the same address, a theft report of two vape cartridges was received. Theft charges are sought for the same suspect. • Received a report of a vehicle driven away from Applebee’s parking lot at 5:24 p.m. Tuesday.
