NUACS Can Collection Saturday

NEW ULM — Aluminum Can Collection & Scrip Sales will be held on Saturday, June 3, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the St. Anthony Elementary School parking lot. Accepting all metals.

Examples include, but are not limited to: metal plumbing fixtures, piping, electrical, wiring, motors, copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, water heaters, stoves, washers, and dryers. Items that cannot be accepted: refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, electronics (computers, monitors, microwaves, etc.).

If you have questions about a certain item, please call Paul and MaryEllen Schanus at (507) 354-3045 or (507) 766-2167. All proceeds go towards NUACS Technology. This is the final collection for the school year.

Plant Sale for Cathedral festival

NEW ULM — A plant sale benefitting the Cathedral Summer Festival will be held today and Saturday at the home of Lora Rahe, 16723 KC Road. Hours are Friday, June 2 from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 3 from 8 to 3 p.m.

Learn about homemade wines

at Historic Kiesling House

NEW ULM — The public is invited to Historic Kiesling House to learn about homemade wine and how to mak wine on Sunday, June 4, from 1 to 4 p.m..

Duane and Toni Laffrenzen, New Ulm residents and Minnesota State Fair ribbon winning wine-makers, will demonstrate their craft. The local winemakers will talk about winemaking, a craft that has been around for thousands of years. Learn about today’s homemade wines and opportunities to make your own wine. Equipment will be displayed for you to see what is used by today’s amateur wine makers. Learn what wines can be made from various produce other than grapes.

Explore the past at The Kiesling House constructed in 1861; it survived the US-Dakota War of 1862 and is the only wood-framed house from that era remaining in Brown County. Learn about Friedrich and Caroline Kiesling, their family and their home.

The Kiesling House is located downtown New Ulm at 220 North Minnesota Street.

Kinder Haus Food Stand

and Rummage Sale

NEW ULM — Kinder Haus Daycare and Preschool is holding a Food Stand and Rummage Sale on Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3 at Redeemer Lutheran Church

Times are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Lunch served 10:30 a.m.- p.m.)

Menu includes Breakfast Cinnamon Rolls; BBQ Sandwich – $2.50; BBQ Sandwich, chips, pickles, drink & bar – $5; Fair Trade Chocolate, Bake Sale.

Take-outs available.

Everett Smithson Band

NEW ULM – Enjoy the soulful Zydeco, Blues, and Creole music of the Everett Smithson Band on June 6 from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the New Ulm Public Library.

After their performance, the band will offer an educational program called Blues for Kids sponsored by the Minnesota Blues Society. Students will receive songs, diagrams, literature and harmonicas for free. Harmonica lessons limited to ages 8-18.

These performances are open to the public and free of charge. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Everett Smithson Band is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
