Missing my family more and more

Dear Annie: I have a problem and am earnestly seeking your help. I am a widow and I have three children. Our family has always been a close one. However, I have encountered a dilemma I never thought I would experience. My daughter is a divorced mother of four grown children. In the past, she always made sure she visited. This has changed in the last few years. Now she seldom visits. I have seen her once this year. She only lives two hours from me. I have asked if I have done anything to offend her in any way, and she assures me I have not. I have helped her financially and have ...

Reusing pudding containers

Dear Heloise: The 4-ounce plastic containers from jello, pudding and applesauce are great to use as measuring cups. I keep canisters full of flour, sugar, cornmeal and coffee. My biggest issue is the fact that I’m paying all the expenses for the household we share together, and he doesn’t need to do anything to assist me. He has outbursts and tantrums when I tell him to get a job. I’m fed up with supporting a grown man. What should I do? -- Frustrated Dear ...

Cleaning hairbrushes in the washer

Dear Heloise: To keep combs and brushes clean, remove as much hair as you possibly can from your combs and hairbrushes. Then, run them through a wash cycle in the washing machine with laundry detergent. They’ll come out cleaner than doing it by hand. -- Rebba C., Colorado Springs, Colorado Rebba, there are a number of things you can wash in the washing machine or dishwasher. I have plastic silverware holders in my kitchen drawers that I periodically wash in my dishwasher. I wash my down comforter on the gentle cycle in my washing machine, then hang it outside on a sunny day to ...
