Sleepy Eye man sentenced for soliciting minor

NEW ULM — A 21-year-old Sleepy Eye man was convicted in Brown County District Court Monday for sending a 14-year-old girl texts asking for sexual photos.

Joel V. Herrera, 105 1/2 E. Main St., Sleepy Eye, received a stay of imposition for a felony charge of soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct. He was fined $1,160, ordered to serve 75 days in jail, credited with four days served with an option to do 15 days Sentence to Service in lieu of 15 days jail time. STS must be completed within one year.

Herrera must complete a psychological sexual evaluation and chemical assessment and abstain from drugs and alcohol. He must submit to polygraph examinations and random drug tests.

In addition, Herrera is not allowed contact with the victim or any females under age 18 and must register as a predatory offender.

According to court documents, Herrera sent a teenage girl text messages on Facebook, asking for sexual photos and asked if she wanted to “smash” again.
