SPRINGFIELD 18, SLEEPY EYE 4 (5 innings)

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield topped Sleepy Eye 18-4 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Friday.

Eli Heglund earned the win for Springfield, striking out two and allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits in five innings. At the plate, Adiel Trevino was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Heglund was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Brecken Heiling added a hit, an RBI and three runs scored.

Eric Lozano took the loss for Sleepy Eye, striking out one and allowing 11 runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings. Chase Zufall made the start, striking out one and allowing seven runs on four hits in two innings. At the plate, Carson Uecker was 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Jacob Fulmer had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Springfield (3-0, 3-0) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday, while Sleepy Eye (2-1, 2-1) hosts Wabasso on Monday.

SEARLES — Madelia topped New Ulm Cathedral 9-5 in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

Zach Jacobs earned the win for Madelia, striking out four while allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits in four innings. Tate Becker made the start, striking out six while allowing one hit in three innings. At the plate, Becker was 2 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Tony Zalenski was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Bryce Borkenhagen an Brayden Grev each had a hit and two RBIs.

Josh Forstner took the loss for Cathedral, striking out two and allowing three runs on five hits in two innings. Ryler Collins pitched four innings, striking out three and allowing six runs on four hits. At the plate, Eli Anderson had a hit and three RBIs, while Evan Bleckestad had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.

Madelia (5-0) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran at Searles Ball Park on Saturday, while Cathedral (3-1) hosts Lester Prairie on Monday.

ST. MARY’S 10, GFW 0 (5 innings)

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 10-0 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Friday.

Landry Folkens got the complete-game win for St. Mary’s, striking out 11 while allowing just one hit and no runs. At the plate, Tyler Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Ethan Schwartz was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kyle Nelson had a hit and two RBIs.

Owen Swenson took the loss for GFW, striking out one and allowing eight runs, four earned, on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Swenson had the lone hit for the Firebirds.

St. Mary’s (1-4, 1-2) plays at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday, while GFW (0-3, 0-2) hosts Springfield on Monday.

WABASSO 5, CANBY 0

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Canby 5-0 in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

Drew Kemp earned the win for Wabasso, striking out 10 and allowing no runs on two hits in six innings. At the plate, Jack Burns was had three hits and three stolen bases, while Drew Kemp had two hits and an RBI. Brooks Baune added two hits and two runs scored.

Wabasso (1-1) plays at Sleepy Eye on Monday.

SLEEPY EYE 11, MLA/C 1 (5 innings)

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Sleepy Eye rolled Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey 11-1 in five innings in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Taylor Berkner earned the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out nine while allowing one run on three hits. At the plate, Jace Shauman was 2 for 4 with a home run, wile Jaelynn Schauman was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and three runs scored. Berkner went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, while Kenley Jenson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Sleepy Eye (4-0) plays at Wabasso on Monday.

WABASSO 8, RTR 5

TYLER — Wabasso defeated Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 8-5 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Aylah Jenniges earned the win for Wabasso, striking out three while allowing five runs on five hits in seven innings. At the plate, Audrey Johnson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Camryn Irlbeck was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Delania Eis added a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Wabasso (4-0) hosts Sleepy Eye on Monday.

BLHS 5, MADELIA 4

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart edged by Madelia 5-4 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Chloe Schultz earned the win for BLHS, striking out three and allowing four runs on seven hits in a complete game. At the plate, Sadie Kirtz was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Elizabeth Ovit had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Emily Jacobs took the loss for Madelia, striking out seven while allowing five runs on five hits in six innings. At the plate, Emmy Johnson and Madelyn Lehman were each 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Kellie Koberoski had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

BLHS (1-2) plays in a tournament at Nicollet on Saturday, while Madelia (2-4) hosts Nicollet on Tuesday.

ST. PETER 11, NEW ULM 1 (6 innings)

ST. PETER — St. Peter rolled New Ulm 11-1 in six innings in a Big South Conference softball game on Friday.

Megan Brudelie took the loss, striking out five while allowing nine runs on 12 hits. At the plate, Gracie Baker was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Lauren Schmeising had a double and a stolen base. Miley Flor and Maddi Olson had hits.

New Ulm (1-2, 1-1) hosts Belle Plaine on Tuesday.

MVL GIRLS WIN AT LSH

LE SUEUR — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls place first and the boys took second out of six teams during a prep track and field meet on Friday.

For the MVL girls, Emily Brown placed second in the 100-meter dash (13.61), while Taryn Freier placed fifth in the 400m (1:08.45). Faith Peters took fourth in the 1,600m (6:12.28), and Natalie Matzke placed second in the 3,200m (12:30.31). Kamryn Davey (16.85) and Avery Freier (17.00) took the top two spots in the 100-meter hurdles, while Avery Freier (51.04) and Brown (52.11) took the top two in the 300-meter hurdles. Jenna Bates won the shot put (32-7.5) and placed third in discus (86-1). Claire Beranek took third in high jump (4-9) and Davey took first in triple jump (34-2) and third in long jump (15-2).

For the MVL boys, Ben Riesgraf placed second in the 100m (11.85), while John Hoffman took second in the 200m (23.60). Max Fischer placed fifth in the 1,600m (5:09.71), and Elliot Vlieger finished fourth in the 3,200m (13:04.97). Oliver Schuch took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.82), while Tucker Kohls placed first in the 300-meter hurdles (44.46) and Schuch took third (45.37). Emmanuel Edwards took second in discus (132-10) and Adrian Henry placed fifth (114-6) Micah Horak won the high jump (5-9), while Ethan Schauland placed third in pole vault (10-0). Levi Johnson (19-0), John Hoffman (18-5) and Riesgraf (18-2) took third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in long jump, and Schuch placed second in triple jump (37-1.5).

FAIRFAX — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys and girls golf teams fell to Le Sueur-Henderson in a South Central Conference golf meet on Friday at Mayflower Golf Club.

Despite the team loss, the boys medalist was Philip Lukasek, who shot a 42 for a five-stroke lead over the second-place boys golfer Hunter Vinkemeier of LSH. LSH took the next four spots on the leaderboard as Jack Thelemann, Lucas Kahlow, Marshall Ernst and Nathan Lansing all shot 49s to tie for third. MVL’s Caleb Hunter carded a 50 for seventh, while teammates Owen Birkholz shot a 52 for eighth, Colby Doering shot a 54 for ninth and Jacksen Gerdts shot a 57 to tie for 10th with LSH’s David Draheim.

The girls medalist was LSH’s Muriel Hilgers, who carded a 55, while teammate Sophie Tews shot a 56 for second. MVL’s Annika Lowery shot a 59 for third, while teammates Emilee Fuhr carded a 61 for fourth and Eden Grubbs shot a 62 for fifth. MVL’s Eden Isaksson and Kara Hinrichsen shot 63s for seventh, while Ava Trahms shot a 65 for ninth.

SPRINGFIELD 21, ST. MARY’S 12 (Game 2)

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield edged Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 8-7 in Game 1 then exploded for a 21-12 victory in Game 2 during a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Thursday.

Regan Beadell earned the win in Game 1 for Springfield, striking out four and allowing seven runs, three earned, on six hits in seven innings. At the plate, Abby Groebner was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while Beadell and Kendall Krueger each had a hit and two RBIs.

Natalie Zarn took the loss for St. Mary’s, striking out eight and allowing eight runs, two earned, on six hits in six innings. At the plate, Neil Weiss and Rivers Helget each had a hit and two RBIs, while Taylor Mathiowetz had a hit and two runs scored.

Faye Williams earned the win in Game 2 for the Tigers, striking out five and allowing 12 runs, seven earned, on eight hits in a complete game. At the plate, Krueger was 4 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Makay Winkelmann was 3 for 3 with six RBIs and two runs scored. Jada Reese was 3 for 6 with two RBIs and four runs scored, while Beadell was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Abby Groebner added two hits, an RBI and three runs scored, while Belle Groebner was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Weiss took the loss in game 2, striking out six while allowing nine runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. At the plate, Sydney Tauer was 2 for 5 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Joslyn Sellner was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Eva Schweiss had a hit, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Weiss had a hit and two RBIs.

Springfield hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday, while St. Mary’s hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday.

SIBLEY EAST 11, LCWM 10 (8 innings)

LAKE CRYSTAL — Sibley East downed Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 11-10 in eight innings in a South Central Conference baseball game on Friday.

Nathan Schauer earned the win for the Wolverines, striking out two and allowing one hit and no runs in two innings of work. Carson Schmidt made the start, striking out one and allowing four runs on seven hits in three innings. At the plate for Sibley East, Schmidt was 2 for 5, while Will Feterl had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Alex Bachman and Landon Friedrichs each had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Ben Brockmann took the loss for LCWM, allowing two runs on one hit in 2/3 of an inning. Landon Sanderson made the start, striking out 11 while allowing no runs on two hits in four innings. At the plate, Jack Goeringer was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Carson Othoudt was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Will McDougall was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while Landon Sanderson was 2 for 5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.

MLA 16, NICOLLET 3 (5 innings)

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area defeated Nicollet 16-3 in five innings a nonconference baseball game on Thursday.

Landyn Erickson was 1 for 2 with a run scored for the Raiders, while Jacob Volby had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

EAGLES BOYS TAKE THIRD IN MANKATO

MANKATO — The New Ulm boys placed third and the girls took fourth out of five teams at a prep track and field meet at Mankato West High School on Thursday.

For the Eagles boys, George Gag took first in the 200 (24.04) and the 400 (53.05), while the 4×400 relay team of Michael Hames, Jayden Broste, Brody Powers and Gag took first (3:40.32). Sawyer Luker took third in the 800 (2:29) and Josh Gordon placed third in the pole vault (9-06). Hunter Heil placed fourth in the 100 (12.08).

For the girls, Ellie Dake took first in shot put (35-10.25), while Jesalyn Skoglund finished third in high jump (4-10). Zoey Havemeier placed third in long jump (13-10), Megan Gauert placed fourth in the 800 (2:47.75) and Isabelle Longtin took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.17). Skoglund placed fifth in the 200 (29.58).
