Area roundup: Raiders roll back, top Chargers in softball
PREP SOFTBALL
NICOLLET 12, MVL 6
NICOLLET — Despite a six-run lead early by Minnesota Valley Lutheran, the Nicollet Raiders stormed back to score 12 unanswered runs to beat the Chargers 12-6 in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.
Jazmyn Goettlicher was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead Nicollet, while Chloe Kachelmeier was 2 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Kamryn Truebenbach was 1 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored also for Nicollet, while Lydia Martens had a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Brielle Osborne got the win in the circle, allowing six hits and six walks for two earned runs while striking out seven in all seven innings.
Grace Onken was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored to lead MVL, while Kenzie Graham was 2 for 4 with a a double and a run scored, Katlyn Stadick was 1 for 3 with two walks and two runs scored and Jess Meunier was 1 for 4 with three RBIs. Stadick took the loss in the circle, allowing seven hits and four walks for four earned runs while fanning five.
MVL had eight errors in the game to Nicollet’s one.
Madelia 12, AC/GE 3
ALDEN — Madelia rolled Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 12-3 in a Valley Division softball game on Tuesday.
Emily Jacobs got the win for the Blackhawks, striking out six while allowing three runs on three hits in six innings. At the plate, Emmy Johnson was 4 for 4 with an RBI and four runs scored, while Kellie Koberoski was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Lauryn Grev was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Madelyn Lehman was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jordan 17, New Ulm 2 (4 innings)
JORDAN — Jordan defeated New Ulm 17-2 in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.
At the plate, Lauren Schmiesing and Gracie Baker both had a hit and a walk for New Ulm, with Baker adding a run scored. Natalie Fischer added a run scored.
New Ulm (0-1) hosts Waseca on Thursday.
PREP BASEBALL
LCWM 4, MVL 2
LAKE CRYSTAL — Minnesota Valley Lutheran fell to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 4-2 on Tuesday in a South Central Conference baseball game.
The Chargers started the game with a run on an error and went up 2-0 in the third when Kyan Kube homered to right field. Carson Othoudt helped tie the game in the bottom of the third, however, on a double and an error.
Another error by MVL put the Knights up 3-2 before a sac fly by Landon Sanderson made it 4-2 in the fourth.
Kube finished 1 for 4 with his homer, while Noah Merseth was 1 for 3 with a double for MVL’s only other hit in the game. Kurt Trahms took the loss for MVL in 3 1/3 innings of work, allowing three hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out four.
Griffin Larson got the win in five innings for LCWM, allowing just the two hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out seven. Blake Sanderson got the save in two innings of relief, allowing just one walk while striking out four. Jack Goeringer and Colton Buss each had a single for LCWM’s other two hits in the game.
REDWOOD VALLEY 12, GFW 1 (5 INNINGS)
FAIRFAX — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s rough fourth inning helped the Redwood Valley Cardinals put up 10 runs on the way to a 12-1 win in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday.
The Cardinals put 10 runs on the board on seven hits in the fourth.
Kaden Rieke led the Firebirds at the plate in the loss, going 2 for 2 with two doubles and an RBI. Luke Bastian and Cayson Gosewisch each had a single for GFW’s other two hits in the game. Rieke took the pitching loss also for GFW in three innings of work, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out three.
Max Dillon got the pitching win for Redwood Valley in a scoreless inning of relief. He also was 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored, while Luke Kaupang was 2 for 3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored and Landon Stoneberg was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
CLEVELAND 12, NICOLLET 0 (5 INNINGS)
NICOLLET — Nicollet was no-hit in five innings by pitcher Alex Kortuem, who had nine strikeouts in five innings to help lift Cleveland to a 12-0 shutout in a Valley Division baseball game Tuesday.
Kade Forbrook took the loss on the mound for the Raiders.
Carson Lyons had a homer, two walks and three RBIs to lead Cleveland at the plate.
