Area roundup: Raiders softball opens season with win
PREP SOFTBALL

TRUMAN — Nicollet defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 12-7 in a Valley Division softball game on Tuesday.
Brielle Osborne earned the win for Nicollet, striking out three while allowing three earned runs on four hits in seven innings of work. At the plate, Madison Kettner was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Breah Hendrickson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Nicollet (1-0) travels to play Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Thursday.
USC 10, MADELIA 0 (6 innings)
WELLS — United South Central topped Madelia 10-0 in six innings in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.
Emily Jacobs took the loss for the Blackhawks, striking out four while allowing 10 runs on 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings. At the plate, Emmy Johnson had the lone hit.
Madelia (1-2) hosts Cleveland on Thursday.

SIBLEY EAST 6, MAYER LUTHERAN 5
ARLINGTON — Sibley East topped Mayer Lutheran 6-5 in a nonconference baseball game on Monday.
Carson Schmidt was the winning pitcher for the Wolverines, striking out five while allowing no runs on one hit in four innings. At the plate, Alex Bachmann was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Schmidt was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sibley East (1-0) hosts St. Clair on Tuesday.

SLAYTON — Wabasso fell 7-0 to Murray County Central in a nonconference prep baseball game on Monday.
Zach Skoblik took the loss for Wabasso, striking out one and allowing six runs, four earned, on four hits in 2 1/3 innings. At the plate, Jayden Remiger had two hits, while Skoblik had a double.
Wabasso (0-1) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Monday.
BOYS TENNIS
NEW ULM 7, ALBERT LEA 0
ALBERT LEA — New Ulm Swept Albert Lea 7-0 in a nonconference boys tennis match on Tuesday.
New Ulm did not drop a set all match as No. 1 singles Charlie Weidman defeated Jacob Luorna 6-1, 6-0, while No. 2 singles Dan Brownfield topped Kuol Dual 6-2, 6-1. No. 3 singles Isaac Dittmer defeated Thomas Hanson 6-1, 6-1, while No. 4 singles Griffin Lehne downed Abe Isaacson 7-5, 6-3. For doubles, No. 1 Wyatt Feucht and Thomas Lehne defeated Parker Munson and Aiden Feickett 6-2, 6-0, while No. 2 doubles Everett Brown and Ryan Johnson topped Levi Monson and Chase Schmidt 6-1, 6-4. Finally, No. 3 doubles Hayden Owens and Cole Frederick won over Axel Erickson and Logan Zierdan 6-4, 6-3.
New Ulm (1-0) travels to play Mankato West on Thursday.
PREP TRACK AND FIELD
GAG, PORTNER TAKE 1ST FOR EAGLES
FAIRMONT — The New Ulm boys and girls teams placed third out of three teams at a prep track and field meet at Fairmont High School on Tuesday.
St. Peter and Fairmont tied for the lead on the boys side with 64 points, while New Ulm scored 40 points. On the girls side, St. Peter won with 85 points, followed by Fairmont (61) and New Ulm (13).
For the New Ulm boys, George Gag won the 400-meter run (52.84), with Michael Hames coming in second (54.45), while Jamison Portner won the 200m (35.58), with Jace Lohman placing fourth (25.93). Sawyer Luker took fourth in the 800m (2:30.90), Isaiah Friese took third in shot put (37-00.5), and Gag finished second in high jump (5-08). Jayden Broste placed second in triple jump (36-07). The boys 4×100 relay team of Hunter Heil, Gag, Jackson Ocampo and Portner palced second (47.43), as did the 4×800 relay team of Luker, Ben Oswald, Josh Gordon and Liam Horner (9:59.91).
On the girls side, Mazy Kitzberger placed third in the 800m (2:53.22), while Jesalyn Skoglund placed second in the high jump (5-00). Ava Kruse took fourth in discus (68-10), while Sophie Berger finished second in triple jump (32-03).
