KNUJ named its winter season Athletes of the Year on Tuesday. New Ulm’s Elijah Rieser (left) and Le Sueur-Henderson’s George Doherty were named as Co-Wrestlers of the Year. Rieser placed fourth at state at 139 in Class AA and posted a 43-11 record, while Doherty placed second at state at 285 in Class A and finished with a 44-3 record. Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Morgan Mathiwoetz was named as Girls Basketball Player of the Year after helping lead her team to a Class A state championship and averaging 33.8 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 5.7 apg and 6 spg. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Cole Jacobson was named as Boys Basketball Player of the year after setting the school record for career points scored (2,102) and averaging 29.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3.8 apg and 2.3 spg.
