PREP BASEBALL

Cathedral 6, Cleveland 5

CLEVELAND — New Ulm Cathedral downed Cleveland 6-5 in a nonconference prep baseball game on Monday.

Ryler Collins earned the win on the mound, striking out two while allowing one run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Josh Forstner made the start, striking out eight and allowing four runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings. At the plate, Collins was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Eli Anderson was 2 for 4. Evan Starke had a hit and two RBIs, and Alex Portner had a hit and an RBI.

Cathedral (1-0) plays at Wabasso on Monday.

Sleepy Eye 15, RRC/WWG 2 (5 innings)

LAMBERTON — Sleepy Eye rolled Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 15-2 in five innings in a nonconference prep baseball game on Monday.

The game ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Kaden Klein earned the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out six while allowing two runs on four hits in three innings. At the plate, Carson Uecker was 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Klein was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Brayden Heiderscheidt had three hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Sleepy Eye (1-0) plays at Springfield on Monday.

Madelia 20, MCW 2 (5 innings)

SHERBURN — Madelia cruised by Martin County West 20-2 in a Valley Division prep baseball game on Monday.

The game ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Brayden Grev earned the win for Madelia, striking out one and allowing no runs or hits in two innings of work. At the plate, Tate Becker was for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Bryce Borkenhagen had a hit and two RBIs. Grev was 2 for 2 with an RBI and four runs scored, while Noel Davilla had a hit, tow RBIs and four runs scored.

Madlelia (2-0) plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

Loyola 4, MVL 1

MANKATO — Mankato Loyola defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 4-1 in a nonconference prep baseball game on Monday.

Kaden Kube took the loss for MVL, striking out one while allowing four runs on two hits in four innings. At the plate, Kube had a hit and a run scored.

MVL (0-2) hosts Blue Earth Area on Monday at Mueller Park.

Wabasso 6, Marshall 1

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Marshall 6-1 in a nonconference prep softball game on Monday.

Aylah Jenniges got the win for the Rabbits, striking out five and allowing one run on five hits in a complete game. Macy Rohlik was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Audrey Johnson was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Wabasso (1-0) plays at New Ulm Cathedral on Monday.

Sleepy Eye 4, RRC/WWG 3

LAMBERTON — Sleepy Eye defeated Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 4-3 in a nonconference prep softball game on Monday.

Taylor Berkner was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts while allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits. At the plate, Berkner had a double, while Kenley Jensen had a hit and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye (1-0) is scheduled to play Mountain Lake Area on Thursday.

CLEVELAND — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Cleveland 4-1 in a nonconference prep softball game on Monday.

Jayde Altermatt earned the win, striking out 14 while allowing one run on two hits and four walks. At the plate, Ava Schmid was 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored, while Shay Wilfahrt had a home run. Thea Paszkiewicz had a hit and two RBIs.

Cathedral (1-0) hosts Wabasso on Monday.

PREP TRACK AND FIELD

MVL boy, girls take 1st in St. James

ST. JAMES — Minnesota Valley Lutheran got a strong showing from both its boys and girls track and field teams on Monday, winning both sides of a prep invite at St. James High School.

The MVL boys won with a score of 211.5, followed by United South Centeal (136), Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (69), St. James/Madelia (60), Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton/Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (47.5), Blue Earth Area (46) and Medford (26).

The MVL girls won with a score of 164, followed by JWP/WEM (148), St. James/Madelia (137.5), BEA (81), USC (33), Medford (22.5) and TMB (12).

Leading the MVL boys, Ben Riesgraf took first in the 100 with a personal-best time of 11.81, while Levi Johnson took second in the 100 with a time of 11.88. Johnson also took second in the 200 (24.1), while John Hoffman took third in the 200 (24.3, PB) and Jeremy Feistner took second in the 800 (2:17.6) and first in the 1,600 (4:53). Max Fischer took second in the 3,200 with a personal-best time of 11:14.5, while Tucker Kohls took second in the 110-meter hurdles (17.41) and second in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 43.5. The MVL boys 4×100 relay team of Riesgraf, Hoffman, Oliver Schuch and Johnson took first (45.5).

Also for the MVL boys, Emmanuel Edwards took first in the shot put (40-3.5, PB) and first in the discus (116-10), while Ethan Schauland took second in the high jump (5-8, PB) and first in the pole vault (10-6). Riesgraf took first in the long jump (19-1), while Johnson took second in the long jump (18-10), Hoffman took third in the long jump (17-11, PB), Schuch took first in the triple jump (37-4.5, PB) and Quinten Forst took third in the triple jump (35-6.5, PB).

For the MVL girls, Natalie Matzke had a first-place finish and personal-best time of 5:56.1 in te girls 1,600, while teammate Faith Peters followed her with a second-place time of 6:11.05 in the event. Matzke also took second in the 3,200 (12:41.6, PB), while Avery Freier cleaned up in the hurdles with a first-place time of 16.99 in the 100 hurdles and personal-best and first-place time of 51.6 in the 300 hurdles. Freier also was on the MVL girls 4×100 relay team that took first with a time of 54.3 alongside Olivia Hammer, Kamryn Davey and Tiphany Dos Santos. The MVL girls 4×200 relay team of Graysie Black, Hammer, Davey and Dos Santos took first also with a time of 1:56.83.

Also for the MVL girls, Avery Hahn took second in the shot put (30-1), while Black took second in the high jump (4-10, PB), Davey took first in the triple jump (34-9) and Emmalie Fluegge took third in the triple jump (29-9, PB).

SEU boys 156, Springfield 184, KMS 188

SPRINGFIELD — The Sleepy Eye United boys and Springfield girls won their side of a prep golf triangular on Monday at Springfield Golf Course.

SEU’s Blaine Arneson was the boys medalist with a nine-hole, even-par score of 36, while teammate Nolan Kucera shot a 38 for second. SEU’s Isaac Christensen took third with a 39, while SEU’s Eli Christensen tied for fourth with Springfield’s Dylan Simonson as the two shot a 43.

SEU’s Sam Price was the girls medalist with a nine-hole score of 39, while Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann took second with a 42 and Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky took third with a 45. SEU’s Kiara Murphy took third with a 45, while Springfield’s Kynslee Kastner took fifth with a 48.
