MVL/NUC sweeps first indoor track meet

MANKATO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral placed first on the boys side and on the girls side of a prep indoor track and field meet at Minnesota State University on Tuesday to open its season on Monday.

The MVL/NUC boys scored 98 points to lead the meet, followed by New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (64), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (56), United South Central/Alden Conger (51) and Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central (41).

The MVL/NUC girls paced the pack with 130 points, followed by GFW (64), NRHEG (46.5), WWG/RRC (36) and USC/AC (30.5).

For the MVL/NUC boys, Ben Riesgraf won the 55-meter dash (6.61), while Tucker Kohls placed third in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.83). Jeremy Feister won the 1,600 (6:00.24), with Max Fischer coming in third (5:17.25), while Owen Manthe won the 400 (57.11), with John Hoffman placing third (57.43) and Micah Horak coming in fourth (59.21). Kohls also took third in the 55-meter indoor hurdles (8.47), with Oliver Schuch placing fourth (8.52). Feister won the 800-meter run (2:15.83), while Hoffman won the 200-meter dash (24.71), with Adrian Henry coming in second (24.75). Emmanuel Edwards placed second in shot put (41-8.5), while Riesgraf (18-7.5), Hoffman (18-1) and Schuch (17-4.5) took first, second and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Schuch also took third in triple jump (36-6), with Quinten Forst coming in fifth (34-7) in long jump and third (5-6) in high jump. Micah Horak added a fifth-place finish in high jump (5-4).

For the GFW boys, Isaac Beckendorf placed second in the 55 (6.77), and Cole Jacobson placed second in the 400 (57.27). Chase Krumwiede took third in the 800 (2:30.82). The GFW 4×200 relay team also placed first (1:46.04).

On the girls side for MVL/NUC, Avery Freier (9.17) and Kamryn Davey (9.22) took the top two spots in the 55-meter high hurdles, while Violet Hammer (7.80), Tiphany Dos Santos (7.85) and Avery Freier (7.85) took third and tied for fourth in the 55-meter dash. Natalie Matzke won the 1,600 (5:52.02), with Faith Peters coming in third (6:17.06). Taryn Freier won the 400 (1:08.11), with Rebekah Vlieger coming in third (1:12.05), and Autumn Butler took second in the 55-meter indoor hurdles (9.94), with Emma Grundmeier placing fifth (10.60). Matzke won the 800 (2:32), while Juliet Langsjoen finished third in the 200 (29.97). Avery Hahn took first in shot put (31-1), with Jenna bates coming in fifth (27-3), while Davey (34-1.75) and Emmalie Fluegge (31-11) took the top two spots in the triple jump. Fluegge also won the high jump (4-10), with Claire Beranek taking third (4-6), while Mollie Berdan took second in pole vault (7-0) and Natalie Wald placed third in pole vault (5-6). The 4×200 relay team of Hammer, Taryn Freier, Butler and Emma Grundmeier placed first (1-57.86), as did the 4×400 team of Elise Trebesch, Addie Hoffman, Kylie Berdan and Mollie Berdan (4:46.57) and the 4×800 relay team of Natalia Wald, Taryn Freier, Elizabeth Fischer and Peters (11:27).

For the GFW girls, Kinley Bruns won the 55-meter dash (7.61) and placed second in the 400 (1:09.54). Silvana Ruiz placed second in the 800 (2:39), with Maddy Steele coming in third (2:41), while Annie Wersal placed second in shot put (30-6.5). Kelby Bruns placed third in the long jump (12-10).
