MANKATO — New Ulm competed in its first track and field meet of the year at the Old SCC Indoor Track Meet on Friday, with several Eagles placing in the meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
The New Ulm boys team placed fourth out of five teams with a score of 44.5, while the girls team placed fifth (18.5).
Fairmont won the boys side of the meet with a score of 168.83, ahead of St. Peter (87.33), St. James/Madelia (65.33), New Ulm and Blue Earth Area (39). The St. Peter girls took first with a score of 189.5, ahead of Fairmont (146), St. James/Madelia (51), BEA (46) and New Ulm.
Jamison Portner led the New Ulm boys, winning the 60-meter dash (7.3), while Daiven Hesse placed fifth in the 60-meter (7.5). Michael Hames placed fifth in the 200 (26.5), and Luis Ruiz-Ramirez took second in the 400 (59.4). Joshua Gordon placed fifth for the Eagles in the 800 (2:29) and third on the pole vault (9-0), while Jayden Broste placed fifth in the high jump (5-4) and LenDale Dunmars took fourth in the triple jump (33-8).
The New Ulm SMR 1,600-meter relay team of Hesse, Brody Powers, Hames and Liam Horner took second (4:16.6).

On the girls side for New Ulm, Jesalyn Skoglund tied for fifth in the 60 (8.5), placed third in the 200 (29.8) and took fifth in high jump (4-8), while Isabelle Longtin took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (11.0). Ellie Dake placed fifth in shot put (29-1).
New Ulm next competes at Fairmont High School on Tuesday, March 31.
