Mathiowetz, Lewis headline 2025-26 All-Journal Girls Basketball
First Team
Morgan Mathiowetz, Jr., G, St. Mary’s
Mathiowetz continues her historic career as she earns her fourth All-Conference selection and second Tomahawk Division Player of the Year and All-State selection. Mathiowetz surpassed 3,000 career points and sits at 3,628 10th in the history of girls basketball in Minnesota. This year, Mathiowetz averaged 33.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 6 steals per game as she led St. Mary’s to its first-ever state championship, where she was on the All-Tournament team. Her 1,114 points this season comes in at sixth-most all time for Minnesota girls basketball, just behind her number from last season.
Brooklyn Lewis, Sr.,
PG, New Ulm
The future-Minnesota State Maverick finishes her career as one of the most prolific basketball players in New Ulm history, totaling 2,077 points (third in school history), 486 rebounds, 522 assists and 460 steals for her career. This year, Lewis led the team in all major counting stats besides blocks, averaging 25.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.1 apg and 6.2 spg while shooting 55.5% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. Lewis was an All-Conference player and All-State Honorable Mention this year. Lewis also holds the New Ulm girls basketball single-game scoring record with 43 points.
Aubrey Steffl, Jr.,
G, Cedar Mountain
Steffl continues to be a force on the basketball court in every game, with her all-around play affecting the game on every possession. Steffl averaged 21.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 5.1 steals per game this season and earned a Unanimous All-Conference selection and an All-State Honorable Mention. For her career, Steffl currently sits at exactly 2,400 career points, ninth-most among All-Journal area schools, and holds the school records for points, rebounds and assists.
Lily Hubin Sr., G, BLHS
Hubin wraps up her career as the top scorer in BLHS school history, finishing with 2,581 points, seventh in All-Journal area history. This season, Hubin scored 28.6 points per game and added 10.7 rpg, 3.5 apg, 5.2 spg and 1.1 blocks per game. An All-Conference player and All-State Honorable Mention, Hubin was the engine for the BLHS offense, constantly attacking to create advantages for herself and her teammates. Hubin continues her basketball career at Southwest Minnesota State University next season.
Olivia Schieffert, So.,
G, St. Mary’s
Schieffert earned her second All-Conference selection and her first All-State Honorable Mention this year as she averaged 18.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.5 apg, 3.3 spg and helped St. Mary’s to a school-best 32 wins and a state championship. Schieffert already has 1,278 career points as a sophomore, putting her in the top 10 for St. Mary’s girls.
Second Team
Taylor Berkner, Sr.,
G, Sleepy Eye
Berkner was a Unanimous All-Conference player this season after averaging 18.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.4 steals for the Indians. Berkner also set the school record for free-throw percentage, hitting 102 of her 122 attempts for an 83.6% conversion rate, and helped Sleepy Eye win a playoff game this year.
Kendra Erickson, Jr.,
F, Cedar Mountain
Erickson’s play this season was a big reason for Cedar Mountain’s success as the Cougars went 23-6 with a section semifinals appearance. Erickson put up 18.4 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2 apg and 3 spg on her way to her first Unanimous All-Conference selection.
Jazmyn Goettlicher, Fr., G, Nicollet
Goettlicher had a breakout campaign for the Raiders this year, earning an All-Conference nod on her way to a team-best 16.3 points per game. Goettlicher can score at all three levels and added 6.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.5 steals per game on 50% shooting from the field. Goettlicher helped lead Nicollet to a section semifinals appearance.
Maggie Joyce, So.,
G/F, New Ulm
Joyce broke out for the Eagles this year, averaging 15.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game. An All-Conference player, Joyce helped lead New Ulm to a 19-9 record and a Section 2AAA semifinals appearance.
Cheyenne Klockziem,
So, F, Nicollet
After an Honorable Mention in the Valley Division last year, Klockziem turned in an All-Conference season this year with 15.8 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 1.3 spg, and 1 bpg. Nicollet earned the Valley Division title and posted a 21-8 overall record with Klockziem holding down the post.
Third Team
Kenley Guetter, Fr.,
F, Wabasso
Guetter made an immediate impact for Wabasso in her freshman season, with her most impressive stat being her 15.4 rebounds per game. Guetter also led the team with 13.1 points per game and was the team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in her first year, earning an All-Conference nod.
Olivia Milbrath, Jr.,
F, Springfield
An All-Conference player this year, Milbrath averaged 15 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while leading the conference in free throw attempts. Milbrath added 47 steals and 18 blocks this season.
Avery Freier, Jr., G, MVL
An All-South Central Conference player this year, Freier was the engine of the MVL offense, averaging 13.2 points and 3.9 assists per game while adding 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals (most on the team) per game. Freier brought her intensity to every practice and every game this season. For her career, Freier sits at 957 points.
Shay Wilfahrt, Sr.,
F, Cathedral
The all-time rebounding leader in the city of New Ulm, Wilfahrt finishes her career with 1,156 career rebounds. Wilfahrt averaged 13.2 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game this season while adding 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals and nearly a block per game. Wilfahrt scored 1,326 points in her career, fourth in school history and second among Cathedral girls. Wilfahrt earned an All-Conference selection this season.
Kendra Lueck, Fr.,
G, Cedar Mountain
Lueck was selected as an All-Tomahawk Honorable Mention this season after averaging 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.3 steals. Lueck stepped up for a team that made the Section 2A semifinals and was also one of the team’s top defenders.
