By Adam Hussman/MLC SID

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — On the fourth day of Martin Luther College softball’s spring break trip, the Knights fell to Penn State-Schuylkill 10-5 and Penn State-Altoona 10-7 on Wednesday in nonconference softball action.

PSU-Schuylkill 10, MLC 5 (Game 1)

The Knights persevered and overcame a two-run deficit by taking a 3-2 lead after manufacturing three runs off of a sac fly, wild pitch and an RBI ground out. MLC extended the lead to 4-2 when Kiara Humann singled up the middle to score Kierah Schultz.

There’d be another lead change in the ensuing bottom half of the fourth when the Nittany Lions made it 5-4 with a three-run single with two outs.

Chloe Koschnitzke roped a triple to left field in the following inning to even things up at 5-5. The bottom of the fifth proved to be the difference in the ball game as Schuylkill put up four runs in the inning to secure the win.

Humann led MLC in hits (three), while Kaylee Pickering finished with two. Additionally, four different players recorded an RBI for the Knights.

PSU-Altoona 10, MLC 7 (Game 2)

In the later contest, MLC played competitively, trailing Altoona 3-2 through three innings. The Knights scored off of multiple errors by the Nittany Lions in the fourth frame and snatched the lead 5-4 for the time being.

Down by one, Altoona would go up again following a three-run homer to make it 7-5. MLC tied things up once more with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but Altoona had the final say, winning the game by tacking on three additional insurance runs.

Humann paced the Knights in runs (two), while Chloe Berg finished with the most hits (two).

MLC will play Lancaster Bible College at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by a game with Penn State-Mont Alto at 1 p.m. Eastern.

Starting at $4.50/week.
