Four to join New Ulm Amateur Baseball HOF

NEW ULM — Two players and two non-players have been elected to the New Ulm Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.

Players Aaron Pfaff and Mitch Bockenstedt and non-players Bob Skillings and Al For will be formally inducted on Sunday, July 12, prior to the 5 p.m. New Ulm Brewers-Springfield Tomahawk East League game.

AARON PFAFF

In four of his five seasons with the New Ulm Brewers, the team made it to the state tournament, finishing runners-up in the 2014 Class C state tournament where he was named to the All-State Tournament team.

He had 70 hits in the 2015 season — one short of the all-time season amateur record set in 1951 by the late Stan Wilfhart. In 2014, Pfaff hit .415 with 49 runs and batted .443 with 48 runs in 2015.

For his career, Pfaff ended with a .360 batting average for 163 games in 663 plate appearances. Pfaff also played four years of college baseball at St. Johns University.

MITCH BOCKENSTEDT

Bockenstedt, who enters his eighth season with the Brewers, comes in as one of the best pitchers to have worn a New Ulm uniform.

In 82 games with the Brewers, the right-handed Bockenstedt has a 52-11 record with four saves.

In 480 innings, Bockenstedt has 590 strikeouts and just 66 walks. He has a career ERA of 1.82.

Prior to coming to New Ulm, Bockenstedt pitched eight seasons with Jordan and had an 85-16 record. In 611 innings in Jordan, he had a 1.81 ERA and had 661 strikeouts.

This will be Bockenstedt’s 24th season as an amateur baseball player. In 176 games he is 117-27 in 1091 innings and 1,251 strikeouts and a career ERA of 1.81.

BOB SKILLINGS

Skillings was elected to the New Ulm Baseball Assocation in 2001 and is now the President of the NUBA where he has served since 2013.

He was also Treasurer from 2013-2020.

He served on the 50th and the 75th Johnson Park Anniverary Committee and has been on NUBA Hall of Fame Committee since November of 2005 and was on the committee that secured the 2020 State Amateur Tournament for New Ulm.

Skillings also played seven years for the Brewers and also manged the Brewers in 1990 -1991 and they advanced to the state tournament, in his two seasons as Brewers manager they won the Tomahawk East American title both years. The Brewers went 454-25 under Skillings.

AL FLOR

Flor, who joins his father and mother, Le Roy and Linda (2024 inductees) — and his resume is impressive.

If one talks New Ulm Amateur Baseball, they talk Al Flor.

Flor, a New Ulm Baseball Association board member, has managed the New Ulm Brewers for the past 17 seasons and has compiled a record of 389-177 with 12 state tournament appearances including a 2014 Class C runner-up.

In 2022, his team went 31-4.

Flor was also instrumental in the many improvements at both Johnson and Mueller Parks fields.

He spearheaded the drive for the new video scoreboard that will be installed at Johnson Park this season and continues to look for improvements at both parks.

He is also the Gambling Manager for the NUBA.
