Eagles fall to top-seeded Cougars

MANKATO — The fifth-seeded New Ulm Eagles had a tough time handling the top-seeded Mankato East Cougars on Saturday as the Cougars rolled to an 85-45 win in the Section 2AAA Boys Basketball Tournament semifinals at Mankato East High School.

The Eagles were led by Jayden Broste, who scored 11 points off the bench. Zach Hubbard added 8 points, while Mitchell Hopp and Levi Hopp each had 6 points.

The Cougars, who are now 20-7 and will face third-seeded St. Peter in the finals at 7 p.m. Thursday at Gustavus Adolphus College, were led by Abdullahi Mohamed, who had 21 points off the bench. Amari Nobles added 15 points for the Cougars, while Lucas Gustafon had 14 and Briggs Meyer had 12.

The Eagles finish their season 14-13.
