Steffensmeier scores 1,000th point for Knights

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Adam Steffensmeier hit 1,000 career points on Saturday in a 90-72 loss to St. James Area in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Steffensmeier had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Brecken Hulke had 16 points and seven rebounds and Michael Balko had 16 points and four rebounds.

Sawyer Olson had 34 points to lead St. James (16-9), while Quinton Kern had 20.

The Knights (14-12) open Section 2A playoffs Friday against an opponent to be determined.
