SLEEPY EYE — Top-seeded Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s started the Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament with a 111-20 win over No. 16 Madelia on Monday.
Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 33 points, 11 assists and six steals, while Olivia Schieffert had 22 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Brynne Ibberson had 16 points, while Kylie Pelzel had 11 points and Natalie Fischer had 10 points.
Grace Tatro led Madelia with 8 points.
St. Mary’s (26-1) plays No. 9 Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Thursday at St. Peter High School at 6 p.m. Madelia ends its season with a 1-26 record.
Sleepy Eye 71, USC 49
SLEEPY EYE — No. 6 Sleepy Eye topped No. 11 United South Central 71-49 in a Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament game on Monday.
Destiney Dittbenner led the Indians with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Alexis Hoffman had 19 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Taylor Berkner had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals, and Jace Shauman had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Sleepy Eye (16-11) plays No. 3 Cedar Mountain at Sibley East High School at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Springfield 73, BLHS 53
HECTOR — No. 10 Springfield upset No. 7 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 73-53 in a Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament game on Monday.
Kendall Krueger led the Tigers with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Olivia Milbrath had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jada Reese had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Makay Winkelmann had 13 points and four assists.
No statistics were reported for BLHS.
Springfield (13-13) plays No. 2 BOLD at Sibley East High School at 6 p.m. on Thursday. BLHS ends its season with a 13-11 overall record.

GFW 47
MORGAN — No. 3 Cedar Mountain rolled No. 14 Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 77-47 in a Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament game on Monday.
Aubrey Steffl had 27 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Cougars, while Kendra Lueck had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Kendra Erickson added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Keyden Buboltz and Taylor Bauer each had 11 points for GFW, while Kinley Bruns had 8 points.
Cedar Mountain (22-5) plays No. 6 Sleepy Eye at Sibley East High School at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, while GFW ends its season with a 4-23 record.

MOUNTAIN LAKE — No. 5 Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey defeated No. 12 New Ulm Cathedral 63-36 in a Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament game on Monday.
Shay Wilfahrt had 12 points for the Greyhounds, while Jayde Altermatt had 9 points.
Cathedral ends its season with an 11-16 record.
BOYS BASKETBALL
WEM 78, Nicollet 61
WATERVILLE — Waterville-Elysian-Morristown defeated Nicollet 78-61 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Monday.
Carson Kettner led the Raiders with 17 points, while Henry Kennedy had 15 points.
Nicollet (21-5) plays at Wabasso in the Tomahawk-Valley Conference Championship on Tuesday.
