Anderson resigns as New Ulm Eagles head baseball coach

NEW ULM — Mike Anderson, who has been the head baseball coach at New Ulm High School for the past two seasons, resigned from that position Friday.

Anderson said that his resignation was 100 percent work-related.

“I got thrown a curveball by my work and my area requires more travel and it would be impossible for me to get back for games and practices,” he said. “I feel really good about my time here — I feel that I am leaving the program in a better place than I found it. I think that the foundation is there for sustained success.”

New Ulm finished 15-9 last season.

“The spring and summer programs that we had success in is building great momentum to keep having great baseball,” he said. “The parents were great — the kids were great and the New Ulm High School Administration was good to me.

“Kristi [Andersen Loose], the softball coach was good to me, and both Kevin Briggs and Jay Backer have been catalysts in helping and have really built that foundation — there is a lot of positive momentum with New Ulm baseball.”

Anderson’s job change also means that he may not be able to coach the New Ulm Junior Legion again this summer.

“John Fischer and Vern Kitzberger and all of the members of the New Ulm Legion Board were great to me and there is a good chance that in next summer (2027) I would like to come back and coach in New Ulm — my job will allow that kind of flexibility.”

With high school baseball practice starting March 16, it is not sure if an interim head coach would be appointed at the Thursday, Feb. 26 meeting of the New Ulm School Board or an interview process.

Starting at $4.50/week.
