St. Mary’s 85, NRHEG 71

Fourth-ranked Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s overcame third-ranked New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 85-71 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Thursday.

Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 47 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Olivia Schieffert had 20 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Audra Hoffmann added 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Camryn VanMaldeghem had 46 points in the game for NRHEG.

No. 1 St. Mary’s (25-1) plays No. 16 Madelia in the first round of the Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament on Monday.

Wabasso 48, RCW 42

WABASSO — No. 8 Wabasso edged No. 9 Renville County West 48-42 in a Section 3A North Subsection girls basketball game on Thursday.

Ava Samyn led the Rabbits with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Cassie Bliss had 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Kenley Guetter added 4 points and 14 rebounds.

Wabasso (9-18) plays No. 1 Central Minnesota Christian on Saturday at Montevideo High School.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 100, Medford 68

MEDFORD — Nicollet hit the century mark with a 100-68 win over Medford in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Carson Kettner led the Raiders with 20 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists, while Henry Kennedy had 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Abe Madson had 17 points, while Keegan Hulke had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. AJ Kramer added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Nicollet (21-4) plays at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Monday.

GFW 67, MCW 49

SHERBURN — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed Martin County West 67-49 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Cole Jacobson led the Firebirds with 19 points, while Owen Swenson had 16 points and Kaden Rieke ha 14 points.

GFW (15-10) hosts Madelia in Gibbon on Friday.

Cedar Mountain 66, HLO/F 58

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain topped Heron Lake-Okebena/Fulda 66-58 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Thomas Dahmes led the Cougars with 27 points and six rebounds, while Jackson Guetter had 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Carson Schiller added 13 points and six rebounds.

Cedar Mountain (4-19) plays at Canby on Friday.

CMC 81, Springfield 59

SPRINGFIELD — Central Minnesota Christian defeated Springfield 81-59 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Brecken Heiling led the Tigers with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Bryan Buerkle had 11 points and four rebounds.

Springfield (18-6) hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday.
